I've got a Mutilator rda running dual parallel coils at ~0.15 ohms on my Sigelei 100w plus at 70-80w, which has been working great and a great vape; BUT, a couple days ago I dry burned and rewicked it, and it really hasn't worked for crap since. The vapor is still thick and not burnt tasting, but it's spitting and I'm getting a ton of juice up the drip tip and into my mouth, yuck. I can wipe down the entire top cap and drip tip, inside and out, and within two hits I'm getting juice in my mouth. Please tell me what I've done wrong! Not enough cotton? Too much cotton? Too tight? Too loose? Something else maybe?

I'm still new to wicking and everything but I've noticed that if there isn't enough wick running through the coil that it'll spit.

I used to have the problem and then I looked at my wet cotton and coil and saw that there were some areas inside the coil where the cotton wasn't completely making contact. I pulled the cotton and rewicked and made sure there was contact and I didn't have the spitting anymore.

Hi mate,

What changed from the time you first built the dual parallels and wicked 'em, till now?
What did you do differently this time?
Is it the same wick material? Same juice?
Did the resistance/position of the coils change?

Cheers
I

This is probably the 3rd or 4th time I've rewicked this set of coils, always with the same cotton, the resistance is the same and the coils don't appear tp have moved. I am really new to the whole rebuilding and rewicking thing, I actually had the guy at my local vape shop build the coils and install them, and it had been working great. I've been through a few different juices since then and all have seemed to work fine. On the same note, I really need to start building my own coils, where do I start? Obviously I need to have a roll of kanthal wire but I don't know what size I should get, I'm looking for maximum clouds and flavor. What should I use to wrap them around? How many wraps?

Start toying with the Steam Engine Coil tool. See what wire, bit and wraps are going to be in your target range.

Everyone will tell you a gauge to use but it really comes down to what you like. I myself like dual 22g 5 wraps with a 3mm diameter for a regular simple build, but just buy a few feet in different sizes and try different things
For beginners, I recommend 26g. It's easy to work with, you can build as low as ya need or higher if need be. It's a bit stiffer than 28g.
Some attys have smaller post holes, so 22-24g may not be a suitable wire.

When I first started building my own coils, I went to YouTube. I watch a lot of videos on wrapping coils for general knowledge, then more specific videos that were around what I wanted to build at. I started from there with what gauge wire I should buy and the diameter of what I was going to wrap around.

It is VERY important that you get a ohm meter! I build my coils exactly the same way (same wire, same # of wraps, wrapped around the same thing) every time. I would never trust blindly that it comes out the same every time though. Safety first!

I use 28g kanthal, 6 wraps on a 2.3mm brass rod to build my Subtank RBAs at 1.2ohms.
