Hey everyone. So I just got a tugboat rda and built a few coils. Even the ones it came with it still tastes metal like or metallic bad every time I hit it I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I'm using surgical grade titanium 1 24 awg wire I got from a local cape shop. Japanese organic cotton. I'm gaping on MVP 3.0 pro. I know people say to not do it or whatever but lots of people on YouTube make it work. All suggestions and opinions will be much appreciated. Please help. Thanks Everyone!

I have no experience with vaping titanium wire. I also have no experience with the MVP 3.0 Pro (or any of the MVP series). AFAIK the MVP doesn't have a Temperature Control mode, and Titanium wire should only be used with TC. Seems like a very bad combo (possibly unhealthy), but I don't want to alarm you unnecessarily. Also FWIW, stay away from Nickel wire without a TC mode on your mod. I'm sure others will chime in...

If your vape shop set you up with this equipment, find yourself a new vape shop. The Tugboat is excellent. You should be using Kanthal wire with your MVP or stainless steel. Nothing else. The responsibility of arming yourself with information is on you. Read a lot. Watch videos. Ask questions. It's to your own benefit.

I, too don't know the titanium - but it's a new RDA, and may have some remaining machining oil. That often causes the metallic nastiness. I've found the only way to get rid of it is to wash the thing in SOAPY water - like "dawn dish detergent".
You will, of course, have to re-wick, and have to rinse the HECK out of it - you don't want to vape soap. But that stuff can get in the threads and water alone, or even alcohol-soaking doesn't seem to get it off.

Thanks for replying buddy. Your totally right. After a few hours of research I just put RDA away for a later day and not gonna cape it on my MVP 3 pro its just not meant for it. Your totally right about the vape store. I went to one I never go to and I could tell he was suckering me into buying it I knew better I guess but was soon excited I wanted to start dripping. And on the tugboat I was literally just watching YouTube vids and eBay etc... I think I'm going to go with the tugboat lyfe unregulated clone since I'm tight on money lol. But yeah lesson learned and just more stuff I learned today :). Thanks for your knowledge and help. Keep on vapin on brother!

There are some pretty good, and inexpensive regulated mods with and without TC probably better than the Tuglyfe clone.

(also) doesn't the MVP Pro 3.0 put out 60 watts? You should be able to get a good/great vape with a Tugboat RDA. Get some Kanthal wire.

If there is machine oil on your RDA from its manufacture... you need to wash it out with a degreaser (like soap) with preferably, hot water. Water alone isn't good enough.

Yes it is 60 watts there's a safety feature on it though if you don't make coil within the right area it won't allow you to vape. Also the titanium prolly isn't good either and thought it'd be okay and put my trust in the local vendor and shouldn't have. I might give her a good scrubbing with some water and soap and get good wire and see what happens. But yeah the safety feature I think may also play a huge part and regulates it big time

I found a el diablo incubus clone for really good price and just looks bad ... I'm thinking that's gonna be the one I get. Screw tug boat lol

It's not the RDA. It's you. The Tugboat's a nice piece. You should be able to make it work for you. Hey, there's no shortage of RDA's to vape, some better some worse and I'm not saying the Tugboat's the greatest (though some might, and that's cool too). Get whatever you like but, the Tug's a good one. No buddy it's you. Hone your skills.

I meant the box clone sorry not the RDA itself. Thanks for the steamboat engine I will play with that tomorrow and get some new wire and see what happens

So today I soaked RDA in alcohol for 30 min then put in bag with alcohol and salt and shook well then boiled ten min. Used engine you provided for coil. Works ten times better and nasty taste gone. Thanks for everyone's help

Titanium wire is fine on any RDA, in any mod. You just need to clean it well. Run the wire through an ultrasonic bath, or draw the wire through paper towels soaked in isopropyl alcohol, or ethanol (e.g. high proof vodka). I run it on all types of devices: strict VV/VW, DNA 200 TC and mechanical mods. Here is my current K24 build: 22g Ti1 7/6 wrap 3.75mm @ 0.08 ohm. Simple and symmetrical with good vapor and flavor production.

Wow yea my builds look like trash compared to yours, those are some nice looking coils man. Your right I used a new piece of wire same taste back. The wire that was good I soaked in alcohol and also boiled. Idk why the wire is like that but eh it works after some steps.

+1 for cleaning the wire with alcohol. The metallic taste you are getting is most likely from residual production fluid on the wire.

While i am sure that Ti wire can be made to work on a non-TC mod, why anyone would go through the hassle is quite beyond me. It's less practical to work with than Kanthal or NiChrome, when overpowered gets hot *fast* and you risk igniting the wire on a dry hit if overly careless.
