When you are switching between a mech mod and a regulated mod it has less to do with the RDA you are using and more to do with the resistance of the coils you build on that RDA.

If you want to be able to use the RDA comfortable on both mods you should just build your coils at around 1.2-1.5 ohms, regardless of single or dual coils.

If you plan on sub-ohming you should buy an extra RDA so you can build one at below 1ohm for the mech and over 1ohm for the regulated mod.

Only thing is that an RDA for the REO would have to be specifically for the REO as it has to allow the e-liquid to flow from the base of the RDA and up to the coil. This is usually (always?) done through the 510 connection.

So while it's technically possible to use a non liquid feeding RDA on a REO, it would mean that you'd have to drip into the top of it and defeat the purpose of having a REO. Alternatively, if you use a bottom feed capable RDA on your Vamo, you are liable to get juice down into the 510 connector. So my advice would be to get one RDA and use it on your vamo, and then another RDA specifically for liquid feed when you get your REO.

As for recommendations, as a starter RDA the Igo-L is a great little dripper. Plenty of room on the deck and a good sized lip to prevent over-drips becoming messy. At around $8-12 they are good value too.
For the REO, the (specifically modified for the REO) Reomizer2 is excellent. Available only from REOs official website that I know of for around $45. Building a coil on them is very easy even for beginners and the small chamber makes it perform very well.

IGO L is cheap and decent for single coils. You can't have an rda that would work with a vamo and a reo. for the reo you need a bottom fed dripper to actually use the reo as it is intended.

Thank you for the advise. Much appreciated.

Hmmmm, I don't really think there is a specific RDA I could recommend as a "beginner" RDA. I personally feel that each RDA is equally as painful to build, unless it was just designed horribly, then it's not worth getting.

I personally always keep coming back to my Trident V2 RDA. It just does what I need it to do. I paid only about $30 for it I think. It's a clone made by Tobeco. It's kind of annoying to build on but I get great flavor and vapor production. But I am a sub-ohmer so that is how I mostly use it, and with very little airflow. It has adjustable airflow and I vape really weird and this RDA allows that. I'm prob the only one vaping at 0.3ohms with the airflow of a clearo cut as low as possible. I have to change my wick daily because of the way I vape...I have used it at over 1ohm a few times and it still works great....

If you have never rebuilt, ever, I would suggest getting the Smok Octopus (I think that's what it's called). It is definitely the easiest to build on, but like I initially said, every rebuildable has quirks that you need to get used to before they become "easy" to build on. It just has 2 little posts that you screw up and down with your fingers so you can get used to inserting leads without having to use a screwdriver or allen key making things awkward. It's only like $10-$15 too, and then you can figure out if you even like rebuilding at all. If you get it just let me know and I can give you some pointers...

OK... so i ordered a box mod (ipv2 50 watt) because i decided to step up from my Vamo v5 with Kanger Meg (1.5).
I am waiting IMPATIENTLY for the arrival and today decided to buy a cheap RDA (Patriot / IGO-W clone) to learn how to make coils. I got 28 gauge kanthal, cotton, and tools.
FIVE HOURS of work, research, video tutorials, etc and i needless to say got really frustrated.

Here's the deal. Building a single coil is no sweat. Rather easy. I can build a sub ohm coil up to 3.8 no problem. The real challenge comes when you try to build a dual (parallel) coil and have to stay above 1.2 ohms (due to Vamo limits).
I managed after much trial and error (1.4mm, 2 mm, 3mm coils... wraps from 7 to 14) to FINALLY get a 1.3 build. The problem is I have to max out the Vamo at 15W to get it to burn hot enough to cape. Sadly the vape was very sad. Weak cloud and a strong throat hit. (albeit i was using my 12 mg juice). SO... the good side is i learned how to build coils. The down side is i need to wait till my box mod arrives to really benefit from my dual coil RDA.
