I have a Nimbus V3 clone coming in tomorrow and I just wanted to get myself situated before I get the rda. I understand that you drop a few drops to get the wick saturated, but do people switch flavors when they do this often? Also, I plan on using cotton as the wicking material once it gets here, how often should I change out the cotton and what can I look for that indicates when to replace it?

I'm also going to the local shop here in my town to pick up some AW IMR 18650 1600mAH batteries just incase I wanted to start using sub ohms in the future (The lowest I plan to go is .8 ohms). Would this battery be alright if I were to run .8 ohm - 1.3 ohm and what would the battery life be like?

You can switch flavors easily by just replacing your cotton wick. When you change your wick isn't a science. When it looks dirty or doesn't taste right replace it. That battery is fine for what you intend to do. It has a maximum continuous discharge of 16 amps and with a .8 ohm coil at 4.2 volts, assuming you'll be using a mechanical mod, you'd only be pulling a little over 5 amps. Make sure to have a meter to check resistance and for shorts.

a good micro coil will hold up a long time… when you want to clear out a flavor or clean it after heavy use and buildup you can just remove the cotton, rinse the coil with water or alcohol and dry burn; pulse it red hot about 5 or 6 times.. it cleans right up.

cotton will deteriorate eventually but is so easy to replace… if you dry burn it (too little juice) it will scorch and burn.

the key to good vape with cotton and micro is just the right amount of cotton … too much will choke it. allow for the cotton to swell a bit with the juice.

aw imr 1600 is a great batt for your resistances; you only need a higher amp batt when you get to .5 and below.

I always mix up flavors but use flavors that are complimentary; theres a lot of flavors that go well together.

* i see you didn't mention "micro coil" … they are the kind you want to use with cotton puff wicking because they hold their cylinder shape and you slide / pull the cotton into it.
Silica is good too, and you can wrap a normal coil around it, but cotton is pretty darn great.

You've recieved some great advice already Travis, just wanted to add a couple of thoughts. There's a great video on making micro coils here. This is pretty much how I set up my Trident, a similar RDA to the Nimbus in that it's got three posts. I use a 1.5mm drill bit to wrap around instead of a jig like he does. Makes no real difference, the process is the same.

I have four small bottles of juice with blunt needle tips in front of me right now and I'm using them all in the Trident. I believe that's 16 different combinations of flavors I can make by combining them plus probably a few thousand more due to mixing different ratios of ingredients of the same mix. I only change wicks when the performance degrades to the point that it's about to start bothering me. Typically I get about 10 - 15 ml through a set of wicks unless I make a mistake and let them run a bit dry a few times.

It's fun. Hope it works out for you :thumb:

I just picked up this same exact RDA 2 days ago. It is working fantastic. I have a dual micro coil with 28g kanthal set up and it came out to be about .58 ohms. Two pieces of cotton for the wicks and it is hitting like a champ!

I will say though, i do wish the orings that hold the top cap on would feel a little more sturdy then they do, but what are you going to do about a clone that otherwise, works very well.

I'll add that I use sterile cotton balls for wicks. They come in a box and are in the first aid section. Some people boil their cotton before use but I don't. Just know with cotton the first 4 or 5 vapes will have a cotton taste, after that all you get is flavor!

From what I've gathered, the only reason people boil their cotton is because it fluffs it up, and makes it easier to get the right amount for their wicks.

If there's another reason, someone please edumacate me!

Thanks for all the advice you guys provided, I do plan on making micro coils but I may need to go to the store and get a 1/16 drill bit or 5/64(I think it was 5/64). Right now I have a 1.4mm screwdriver that I will be using, I also have 1/16 hex key but I don't know if the coil will come out perfectly round or hex shaped. I also do plan on going to the store and getting organic cotton or normal cotton balls depending if they have organic. I've also seen a few videos online saying that I should boil the cotton to get all the chemicals off so I will be doing that.

At this point, the only thing I'm worried about is the battery issue when it comes to mechanical mods and sub ohms. I do have a few battery safety charts that I will be using to help but when it comes to amps, watts I am a bit clueless. There is a local shop here in town and the guy who runs it sub ohms all the time and is willing to walk me through it once I get my nemesis in the mail. My RDA should be here any minute now so I'm just going to pop that bad boy on my vamo v5 for the time being till the nemesis comes.
