I normally change out my coils when I want to do a different build and or resistance setup. You can take the old cotton out when the coils start to get gunky from juice. Then give them a few pulses without cotton in them to burn off the charred and gunky juice. Lightly brush them with a toothbrush if you need or want to. Essentially a coil can last months as long as you keep up with it. You have a couple options when it comes to changing flavors. Me I'm lazy sometimes and I'll fire my mod and blow out a flavor if there is a strong flavor I want to change from. If it's not that strong of a flavor, I'll just start dripping the new flavor once it's time to re-drip. As far as the cotton catching on fire, all you have to do is keep it wet. It will take some getting used to, but you'll get to notice a flavor drop right before a dry hit, and that's normally when you want to drop some more juice on the coil / wicks.

Okay so how often do you have to change coils? How often do you change cotton or wics? Do you have to change when you change flavors? Is there a fire or burning issue ever? I'm interested in. Reo with an RDA but I've got some research and learning to do before I get one. Thanks guys

1. You change coils when they start to fire bad or build up to much gunk that dry firing can't clean. Also, coils will start to pit after a while. Really depends on what works for you.

2. Change your cotton when it starts to taste bad. Some folks change every couple of days...others, once a week sometimes ones every two weeks. Really depends on what works for you.

3. Only time your cotton will catch fire is...if dry or to much voltage/wattage.

The Reo is a great device, but you have to either get an RDA made for botton feeding (squanking) or mod one.

I change wick (organic cotton, cullucotton/rayon) when it begins to taste bad or appears to look burnt inside the coil. Typically this is every few days or less.

I don't particularly like making coils, so I use them as long as I can. I dry burn (pulse fire) my coils between wick changes to burn off the sugars on the coils. I've had coils last six weeks or more.

Never had my wicks catch on fire, but I know it could be possible if the cotton is allowed to dry out. That never happens though, because the dry hit you get with not enough juice in the cotton is horrible and unforgettable. Never pulse fire a coil with dry cotton - the cotton will flame.

Unlike Baditude, I'm one of those guys that typically change my coils every other day or so... Last Sunday I bought some rayon (cellucotton) and rebuilt my coils on Monday, used the new rayon, and I'm still running on the same coils/wick... this is the longest I've ever gone without rewicking/recoiling! I've got about 40ml of juice through it so far, and it's still clean tasting and firing well (I have a hybrid mech mod/rda) and this is the only mod I've been using since Monday.

I'm also looking at a "Reo" or bottom feed device.... haven't found a place to get this yet, but I'm looking for it! Kind of the best of both worlds IMO.

Cotton is a wick... so is silica, so is rayon, so is ceramic, so is stainless steel mesh, etc, etc.... a wick is the delivery system that brings juice to your coil.
You do not have to be careful about the juice getting on the coil... it does need to be wet with juice, after all... but you also don't want to flood it... too much juice on the coil prevents the coil from reaching proper temperature to vaporize the juice efficiently.

Dylanacessna - based on your questions I can assume you are new to all of this?

Have you done any reading on battery safety, ohms law, and amp limitations? All three of these are VERY IMPORTANT to understand if you are going to get into rebuildables and do it safely! There is a lot more to rebuilding than wrapping a coil and putting a wick in it.

If you need information on ANY of this, please let us know!:)

The downside -- cartomizers. No rebuildables.

Looks like it only accepts 510 drip atomizers or cartomizers. Not sure if it might accept a Reomizer rebuildable drip atomizer like a Reo mod will.

Just got word from Kevin as S-body, and you were correct.... carto's only, unless, in his words you "use a 510 to 510 adaptor". Still talking with him and awaiting better pictures and possibly some showing this with a Magma or other type RDA on it..... and price on 2 of them as samples to try.

I really like the rayon! It does last longer, but I find it is totally juice dependent. I have been dripping some juice and my coils are clean, the wick is just starting to show a wee discoloration after about 36 hours of sporadic dripping. These are bakery/sweet types of juices and this is a great result for me.

On the other hand, I was vaping some very dark chocolate in my Reo and totally gunked the coil and wick in about 6ml (one bottle). It was bad enough that I replaced the coil. It was an old coil so no biggie. My first coil in the Reo lasted about 3 months. It was a twisted wire coil made for me when I was given the Reo.

Rewicking is a great idea as often as you want. I check my wicks frequently, rewick when they are getting nasty. The Reo gets a full shower/bath about every other week (I am lazy). Of course, a new wick is indicated then.
