RDA wick. Who uses what.....

I just got my first rda (IGO-W) and it has been awesome. I use 6mg currently just because i didn't know how it would react and hor my body would take it. Built my coil at 1.2-1.3 pretty consistently. I have 1.5mm silica in it tripled over and it works ok. Not really what i want. it was suggested by the shop i was at and it wasmy first build so i went with it.

What kind of wick do you use and why? is thicker wick better? silica or ecowool? thanks for the feedback

I've been bouncing back and forth with cotton..cheese cloth and cotton balls.. and hollow eko wool. I think I'm liking the hollow ekowool better. It seems like the hollow wick allows the silica to wick faster. I think that's the only downside with silica..a lot slower than cotton.

Edit- Ekowool is just braided silica.

Ive heard that the Ecowool is about as good as it gets with a dripper. what mm are you using?

I use the Ekowool hollow as well, does work quite nice. 3mm for me. Of course as I'm typing this I'm looking for an alternate wick because the 3mm is too big to fit into the coil I just wrapped

Q-tip? what are you using that for? I am gonna look into some 2mm. seems there may be more versatility with that set up than 3. still testing the waters. shoot i might like 2.5 braided, who knows.

I use organic cotton with my Igo-W. Best part is that you can remove the cotton wick and replace it multiple times and make the coil last WAY longer. I also like Ekowool but you cannot change it out like cotton...

I use 3mm.. I haven't really looked to see if there's anything smaller. I just play with my rba, but I still use bridgeless atomizers out of convenience.

What do you mean? Threading anything can be a PITA, but it doesn't always have to be.. If you're folding it, then ok, but I don't see the point of folding with hollow ekowool.

Used 'em all in RDAs... organic Japanese cotton make-up pads, cotton yarn, cotton balls, XC-116 ceramic, ekowool, silica, ekowool/cotton hybrids... even pure white Chinese silk (the wife was not at all pleased with that one)... all sizes and shapes.

Sometimes, you don't know what will work best until you try several of them. Clean cotton offers good taste, silica (and ekowool) offers better heat protection, sometimes at the cost of taste. Ceramic offers the best of both, but requires a bit of prep and care.

In all seriousness, Q-tips make great wicks. 100% cotton. No dyes. Sterile materials. Peeps have been making wicks with Q-tips for a while. It's, as far as I know, exactly the same as using organic cotton balls.

Actually the first time I've resorted to making a wick out of a Q-tip. All cotton rules apply. Soak generously. Don't dry burn, etc. Taste is pretty good, though I don't notice any difference between Ekowool/Cotton thus far. The 2mm would probably work great for you, but it depends what kind of coils you plan to be building, more specifically, what diameter wraps.

I spontaneously thought about using silk as a wick, once. How'd that work out for you??

You can get 2mm and 1mm also. Probably other sizes as well, but that's what I've seen.

I also use cotton in my IGO-L micro coils. Very nice clean taste. Doesn't last long, but it's extremely easy and cheap to replace. Lately I've been using gauze. Same great flavor and performance, but it lasts longer. Coils last forever.

I've got some 2 mm Ekowool, but I haven't tied it yet. Didn't seem easy to replace as you say so I would have to dry burn it well.

i noticed that i tend to naturally wrap them large, even for a tripled over 1.5mm. Of course i have only built 2 coils in my life so i havent found my niche yet with them. i tend to get hot spots near my positive post, i am able to fix them by manipulating the coil and wick (usually it is the wick not touching the coil at that part). so i figured either wrap tighter coils, or buy larger wick. I use the method of wrapping the coil aroung the wick then fixing it to the post ( i watch a lot of grimmgreen and tod's videos).

Cotton is easy to use. You make the coil first, twist the cotton, put it thru the coil, then fluff it back out to a snug fit. I don't fold over Ekowool but I use either 2 or 3mm and put a fair amount of wick on both sides of the coil and wrap it back down under the coil (imagine a snake coiled up).

That's what I used before I switched to gauze. Got it to the point where 1 Q-tip wicks 4 micro coils.

im happy with my peaches and creme cotton yarn. tried eco wool and its always seemed to taste like crap to me.

Ekowool is perfect for drippers, wicks well and is super heat resistant. I love the stuff. I've been using cotton lately and LOVE the flavor, although it is more 'fiddly' to work with. Too much, too little ... it takes a bit of time to figure out how much you need for a specific application. While nowhere as heat resistant, I have found that even if you get a bit of a dry hit, the stuff can bounce back. I've yet to ruin a cotton wick by accidentally dry burning, but even if I did, I have 1000 years worth of cotton wick in one bag of cotton balls.

GrimmGreen got me interested in trying vaping again. I had attempted it with a crummy starter kit, lost hope, and went back to analogs. I'll thank his fantastic videos for showing me a vast majority of what I know about vaping, as well as the huge selection of choices in gear. I've tried his wrapping method plenty, and had some good success. Works better with 30 or 32GA though. Fewer wraps, the better.

I think whatever millimeter wick you use it should work, so long as you're being careful and narrowing your ohms to what is safe for your setup. I recommend 1.2Ω+ but if you're into lower, power to ya. Just be safe.

I will say that the 3mm, when torched, gets pretty stiff. I think that's one of the aspects of Ekowool that I like best. Torch it for 20 seconds or so and it gets nice and dense. See no reason why the 2mm would react any differently.

Cool. Maybe ill go ahead and purchase a few different option and try them out (2 & 3mm). Yeah i love wathing grimm's videos. informative and entertaining. I keep mine right around 1.2ohm. i am not ready to start building sub ohm coils yet. maybe some other time when i get better battteries and more experience. Or maybe i never will, who knows right? lol. time to start testing!! thanks everyone for the input.

I've been wrapping over three strands of 1mm silica forever, can't think of a reason to change.
