remember to wash your hardware if you just got it; might have machine oil and filings and stuff.

use a regulated mod where you can start at low voltage and go up; plus be able to check ohms while topper is connected.

Once you do your coil and wick, fire it up with the top cap off and do the sniff test; if it don't smell good it aint gonna taste good.

oh and if its your first build try to get up to around 2 ohms for starters; put lots of wraps on that 28 gauge.

Good advice!

Stating a question is dumb, and slandering it, makes the speaker seem ignorant.
My IGO-W3 has been with me for months, i've cleaned it many of times, i usually smell it
and it has been a bad smell for quite awhile, in a few minutes, instead of using twisted,
ill build two micro coils, and then watch videos on how they wick them. I'm about 3
months into rebuildables, but just got my mech mod.

I have a IGO-W3 with 2 Twisted 28 Gauge Coils, I've used cotton, ekowool, still, just lots of bad taste.
I've tried threading it through the coils, under, etc. I need help. Please & Thanks!

Take your atty and boil it, there is probably tons of machine grease on it, You do not have to remove your coils to boil it. Put some "organic" cotton back in it and vape on it for a while, if you have pre-boiled cotton problem would be solved if the cotton is right out of the bag the cotton taste will go away after about 100 hits.

Thank You, Cloud Junky, JaRod, & Edyle, I Shall Clean My Atomizers, Fix My Coils, And Look Into Buying New Cotton.

Another good wicking material is German Silica. You can get it at RDT vapor. The stuff has a very clean taste. Also I use organic cotton balls from Walgreens. One hundred percent cotton. I don't even boil this cotton and the taste has been excellent.

I think your issue may be that you need cotton to work, since your subohming, but your cotton wick was too dense so it didn't wick well and was too tight in the coil. Try it with the cotton, make the wick the size of your coil ID but so fluffy you can see right trough it . Soak it down good and make sure you have no cotton bulging at the edge of the coil (shoulders).... I think This will get you a good vape just keep it wet.

What ohms are you vaping at?

I redid everything, recoiled it with a single twisted 28 gauge micro coil, cotton, boiled my atomizer, clean taste but can't inhale more then 4.5 seconds before it taste burnt, but if i try again, no bad taste...hmm...i enjoy the setup, but wanna take a nice, long drag, any suggestions on that? otherwise thanks for the help!

Also check the insulator on your atty. If your coil is to low or your vaping to hot (really low sub ohm) your insulator may be melting.
Can you describe the bad taste/smell?

Does it smell like burning oil? (clean atty)
Does it smell like burning/melting plastic/rubber? (melting insulator or o-rings though o-rings is rare)
Does it smell like burning cotton? (to much or to little cotton).

In all cases I believe your cotton is too dense, less it more! .. or its too tight against the coil or too loose on the coil, or your coil has a hot spot or a hot leg... Look at the coil right after a dry hit.. Any dry spots where your getting a dry burn effect. Is the cotton scorched? Light it up soaked with the cap off before you pull the wick, what glows?

Can you post a picture of your wick?

Sounds like a wicking problem to me. Just keep messing with the density through, around or under the coil till it taste just right. Also stick with one type of wick till you figure that one out. Every different material wicks differently, have different properties and requires different densities. Till you figure one type of fiber out, don't switch up, it will just add to the confusion.

Also, boiling or treating wick material before hand is often needed to remove any oils, contaminants, or fiber taste, before using. Also helps break in the wick faster. Most new builds and wicks require a breaking in time too, before the perform at optimum. Getting to know your wick is all part of the learning curve. Personally, would stick with the cotton, pre-boil it for 30 minutes, dry it out, then start trying it again.

Or could be the rba/rda wasn't cleaned properly before using. Some have oil residue left on them from machining.
