For me, it's not an issue. Regular cleaning and rinsing will be the key to service life. If you let it go to long and get all gunked up, it is much more difficult to clean and hard to get back to normal. Of course, this depends on the juice, and if you like to run it hot. Torque or Prime coils go multiple refills without cleaning. Belgian and VooDoo need it after 2 tankfuls.

After 6 months of Triton tanks and coils, I have retired just 2. (while rotating 7 tanks.) They went too long, and I'll say it was my learning curve.

Lol, I've broken more tips than coils. The old style with the short threads have all broken. Luckily Halo now carries tips.

I was wondering more about how durable these materials were compared to the factory wick material.

Do you have to replace them more often?

OHHH..I ditto what DaveOno said. I've only had to toss 2 tanks so far after nearly 8 months old and maybe 5-6 coil heads. I have over 20 tanks and rotate them a lot so they don't individually get super heavy use.

You can buy the 2mm scilica (what is in the stock coils from Halo). I even have some.

As to how long the cotton will last, I don't know. I have been vaping a thin juicy fruit juice on the one I re-wicked with cotton, so it will be a good while before it needs cleaned. I'm not sure how well it will put up to being cleaned though. Either way, cotton is cheap, and it was not too hard, so it is a win even if it lasts a week.

I can see replacing with scilica being harder than cotton, but I'm liking the cotton better anyway. I want to try some bamboo thread like I said. I'll get to it eventually, probably try it in a RDA first.

Just wanted to say thanks for posting this information. I am over 2 months smoke free thanks to my Triton. I don't want to fool around with trying to make a coil but it seems like it would be easy enough to just replace the wick when it's time to clean them. I would rather do that then worry about trying to get the old wick clean. I just ordered some 2mm silica twisted wick off ebay so I should be set for a while. I bought a couple packs of replacement coils, so with the new wick on the way I should be good to go. Thanks again for all the information. Also can anyone tell me a tank to buy that is similar to the Tritons but made for an ego. My friend (against my opinion) bought an ego system and has been getting tanks from the flea market and they are crap. She wants one like the Triton that is a top coil. Thanks for any information you can give. I'm still pushing her towards Halo, but she has already spent a bunch of money on ego batteries.

The Kanger T2 tanks are almost identical to the Triton tanks, the coils are even interchangable between the two, but the T2 is ego threaded. The T2's come in long wick and short wick. There are plenty of options for a top coil clearomizers in ego sizing, but the T2 long wick is most like the Triton tanks.

Also, you can buy packs of pre-made RBA coils if you are worried about building your own. Just add wick and your ready.

YMMV, but here's what I've noticed on my Halo Triton tanks:

Dark-colored liquids affect the performance much worse than lighter-colored liquids. After a few tanks of dark-colored liquid, both vapor production and flavor begin to noticeably deteriorate.

Daily cleaning of the tanks and wicks with lots of warm water will help here. But you'll notice a lot of e-liquid going down the drain. Also, the wicks will begin to fray due to the wear-and-tear from daily cleanings. The frayed wicks will start interfering with the airflow through the coil assembly, and you'll eventually notice the draw becoming tighter. These things were unacceptable to me.

Take the silicon sleeve off of a (dry) coil assembly. Remove the tip of the coil assembly with a pair of pliers. The loose "flavor wick" comes out easily. Gently pull out the "main" wick that's threaded through the coil.

Now take (what's left of) the coil assembly, and screw it into a tank. An old, cracked tank is perfect for this procedure. Then, screw this tank on to a battery. Hit the fire button and pulse a few times for a few seconds. You'll see a wisp of smoke, and the coil will glow red-hot. This dry burn removes gunk from the coil. Let cool.

Now, you can re-wick the coil. I use 2mm silica. Creating a "condom" on the very end of the wick using a small square of teflon tape makes threading the main wick through the coil very easy. The flavor wick sits on top, and is held in place with the silicon sleeve after replacing the tip.

I've bought 2mm silica before that was just too fat to thread thru the coil, even using the teflon tape. If you're having trouble getting it threaded (the most difficult part of this procedure), simply remove 2-3 strands from the silica wick that you're using. In fact, removing a strand or two from properly-sized 2mm silica will improve juice flow into the coil resulting in more vapor. Experiment a bit with the silica you get.

Silica wick can be cut very neatly using a new pair of nail clippers.

I find that a dry-burn and rewicking with new silica makes the coils LIKE NEW, at very little expense, and requiring very little time.

^^^^ Great read right there...
I'm going on 3 weeks with my Triton tanks. Cleaned them quite a bit with warm water. Then tried the dental tab, the tabs I used left a bad taste. Lately my juice is really starting to tast like ......... I've never dry burned any of my coils when cleaning. After reading today I'm pretty sure that has to be my problem. Wicks are getting a little worn out as well from cleaning. Picked up a bag of organic cotton balls today at Walgreens. I'm looking forward to trying my hand at rewicking tonight, dry burning my coils....and hopefully getting the flavor back. It would be great to see a pic of a rewicked triton coil so I can get an idea on how much to use....if anyone has one?

Well did the cotton wick last night. It was really alot easier than I thought. Took 2 of my coil heads, carefully spun the wick out from the coil and took the little metal tip off the top. Screwed it into the tank and fired it 3-4 times until the coil glowed. This was a coil I had just cleaned and a few wisps of smoke came off of it, so it was definitly burning off something that was left behind. Pulled a cotton ball apart, made a "worm" shape with some of it...swisted the end to a needle point and worked it through the coil. First time I had too much cotton in the "worm" so had to take half of it out. Made a flavor wick to put on top, put the metal tip and condom on and worked it into the tank. It vapes good....not sure if its in my head but I feel like I get some of a cotton aftertaste... I didn't boil the cotton or anything. I do think I may have used too much cotton in the wick and will even use less next time.

Cool!!! Thanks for the info! I'm going to try this too with organic cotton balls in one and boiled cotton yard in another. Probably use cotton yarn flavor wick in both.

How long did you make the "tails" on the cotton balls

Tried to make them about the same size as the ones that come with the tank. I still think I made them too thick....you really don't need a whole lot. Also wished I would have boiled them, the more I'm vaping the more I think I can taste the cotton.
Just ordered 5lf of 2mm silica wick off ebay for $4, free shipping. Figure I'll give that a try as well....

Yep, I've heard peeps that can taste the cotton so they do boil it. I bought organic cotton balls, never boiled them and I don't taste it BUT....my taste buds are always wonky so I'm not a good judge of it.

I didn't boil the organic cotton balls, but I'm not getting any cotton taste.

Also, my "tails" were the same length as the stock triton wicks, but they are 2-3 times as thick. The only thing using that much did was tighten the draw, which made it not overly tight, but enough that it feels more realistic comparing what I did to how they are.
