So I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of my first PV (SD mkII - if I'm starting, I'm starting BIG :D) in the next couple of days. Come on USPS get it going!

Just wanted to say hi to the forum, I have already got a great deal of information on here, and hope that continues once I have officially joined the vaping masses ;) - already have my DIY liquid plans laid out, and I haven't even got my own PV yet! But I was sold after just a couple of hits off my workmates PV.

I would appreciate any input any of you guys have on what to plan to take on a 6 month trip away - I'm thinking maybe 10-20 attys, plenty of juice, spare battery(ies) and maybe even a backup PV. Any opinion/advice will be very well received on spares/second PV choices I need to make

Thanks!

welcome to the first day of the rest of your life. The SD is a great mod (I actually thought about getting one initially.) infact, if memory serves that's what cisco (you'll hear his name alot in vaping forums. they call him the modfather) used at vapefest. i'd recommend getting some joye genuine 510 atty's and some lr 306 atty's. if your already starting on a kick ... mod i'd just jump right into it and grab some drip tips and start acting the part for a mod like that.

a backup PV is a good idea but not nearly as good idea as stocking up on batteries for that bad boy. Don't buy big mills of eliquid off the bat. buy a whole bunch of small mill bottles. i've been vaping nearly a month and i still don't have a eliquid i'm madly inlove with.

Bottom line, enjoy man 8) if your stocking up the way you are, money is obviously no object so i'd definately recommend getting some good priced eliquid but also some high quality eliquid aswell (Essence line is a great blend from what i review) altsmoke has a decent deal going on aswell.

Check on eliquidplanet.com they have some really good specials on juices.

Oh! and don't forget to send me a batch of your DIY 8)

Welcome to the community man. It's a life changer.

Thanks for the reply, some great info!

Haha yea unfortunately money is certainly an object! The reason I want to stock up is that I have a work trip to Indonesia for 6 months, so want to be able to bring enough over with me to keep me vaping. Sucks that I have it so soon after getting onto the vaping, which is why I am looking for you veterans' help in knowing what I need/don't need to take with me.

Do the 510 and 306 both need seperate converters for the SD? I know the 510s do - I've not heard of the 306's though. I didnt get the SD kit with the converter as they were sold out, so I just picked up the SD, battery, 5 extra 901 attys and a drip tip.

Welcome to the forums!
510 and Cisco's LR 306 has the same connection. So you can use it on a 510 device.

Hi and welcome to ECF. For a 6 month trip with little or no chance of resupply you'll need a bunch of stuff. I vape around 3ml a day so I'd figure about 600ml or a bit more juice during that time just to be safe. I'd have my primary PV which would preferably be a mechanical mod, and at least one good backup that uses the same batteries. That way if you drop or lose one you're covered. You also need backup batteries, I'd say at least 4. Atty's, 10 or so and a few boxes of carto's. If you're using cartridges figure on a few boxes of those and a small bag of filler material. Personally I'd skip the cart's and go with a drip tip (and a spare or 2 since they're cheap) and use carto's when dripping isn't convenient. And make sure you have backup chargers for each PV. If they use the same battery that would help.

Adapters are an easy purchase. But, in terms of 901 atty's i'm really not a pro at them. I know it's a smoother vape but i also know 510's flavor tends to come out better then 801 or 901.

100% agree with drip tipping. best vaping experience. just make sure you get a good drip tip.

You know, I never even considered carto's - I figured they wouldn't play so nice with the SD. I presume some kind of converter is needed to use the cartos with it? As I said, I have no conversion equipment yet.
I do like the idea of a smaller backup PV to go with the SD beast, although it does I guess make sense to go with something that will use the same batteries as the SD. Any recommendations on a good but above all, well priced PV - I dont want to shell out for a second SD if I can help it, but it does make sense to pool the batteries for the 2 PVs.

I use SDMKll good solid device has a native 901 connection but comes with a 510 adapter or it should if you got the kit, its 100% mechanical so no problems on that end. If you want to use the KR808d cartos you will need the 901 / 808 adapter also. If I were going away for 6 months I would take 4 batteries and get a extra charger also. I would get 30 atty’s of your choice and about 6 boxes of carto’s, to be safe. The SD is almost bullet proof just make sure you attach the cap that protects the button and make sure the screw is tight. Get a couple of drip tips & I would think at least 100ml of juice per month. You will get around 10 solid hours out of the 18350 batteries with a good charge. I'm not sure if you will need the non american charger connection where you are going . I like LR atty's on my SDMKll but using them you run the risk of them not lasting as long. Good Luck

Peevish - hey fellow Yorkian??? I have some different liquids you could try out if you would like. Just let me know and we could meet up somewhere. I'll send you a PM.

Edit - your PMs are disabled, so just let me know. I have lots of DIY stuff and mods you could try out as well.

These mods use the same 14500 batt's as the SD and they're cheap Custom Mods. If you want to go even cheaper get the kit and spend 30 minutes with a soldering iron putting it together yourself 510 Box Mod Kit. They have a 510 connector so you can use Thread Adapter's to go from 510 to 901 or the other way from 901 to 510. I've got a couple of those cheap boxmod's and they're great little units, just don't drop it onto pavement because it's plastic. It would be fine for a backup though.

The SDMKll uses the 18350 batteries not 14500's. If you wanted a inexpensive back up get a Rough Stack from Mad Vapes it also uses the 18350's its priced @ $45.00 although the switch is electrical, I believe it's a 510 connection

Here's where I got the information DSE 905 Electronic Cigarette Starter Kits | DSE 901 Atomizer and Electronic Cigarette Supplies from LiteCigUSA!. They're selling the 14500's for the 905. I guess you know from firsthand experience though so I'll defer to the experts. Thanks for the correction.

That is not the SD he was listing, the SDMKll is from TW. I would not use the DSE905. However they do call it a Screw Driver and that one dose use the 14500's. He was listing a different SD is all

Peevish - hey fellow Yorkian???

Wow awesome - great to know there are vapors in this neck of the wood - I am indeed an Old New Yorkian, although its via UK thanks to the magic of the Green Card!
I think my PM's are disabled because I am a sorry noob on here - I'll have to post some more to get it working I guess. I appreciate the offer - it'd be nice to have a vet's input on the world of vaping once I am up and running - especially because I am already interested in the world of DIYing, it switches all the buttons - gadgetry + mad scientist mixing.

I've joined the group (at least I think I did it right lol) - thanks for the heads up. This does indeed seem like a great community ;)

Do the 18350's have a non-vaping equivalent, or rather, a camera/non specialty equivalent? I have a good source for common camera type batteries, so would be great to use this rather than having to make more web orders - my bank balance is coming under strain at the preparation for going away, so I'm trying to make sure I both keep my cost down as much as I can, and also make sure I wont be running out of supplies where I can't order more for 6 months.

Ooh, the magic green card! I'm not from here, either. I'm from Montana, so it's quite foreign to me, also.

Well, take your time trying out vaping stuff and if you ever have any questions, let me know once you can PM. I'm sure I also have some extra DIY stuff I can give you, too!

Oh, are you gonna be out of town for this?:

Hope not!

Philly Vapefest 2011!

Hope not!

Ahh nuts yea, I will be in Indonesia until June. Crap. That looks like it would have been a blast. Is that an annual thing in Philly, or is it a National thing that happens to be in Philly next year?

Thanks for the kindness - I have got my posts over 5 now so think that gives me PM - prepare for 1001 questions coming at you - mwahaha!. I can't believe how much info there is out there, I have been eating up as much as I can before my PV arrives (crosses fingers) soon.

Montana to York eh? an intersting route - but feel lucky you don't get a million York County bod's assuming your British accent is Australian, or Russian (yea really).
