So.. I am new to the scene, and still figuring out how to manage these things. I have moved from the 'disposable' plastic tanks to a Kanger Protank Mini (the original, not the PTM2)

When the disposables would gurgle, I would blow them out, and twist a piece of toilet paper into a tight wick and stick it down the mouthpiece to absorb the juice, and clean it out. I did the same with the KPTM. It seemed to make things worse at times, and afterwards I would get dry hits, leaks and other odd symptoms.

On my third or fourth head, I realized what the problem was. On the Protank (and, I will assume other bottom coil rigs), the TP was mashing the flavor wick to hell.. even being gentle.... if I was frustrated with gurgling, and jamming the TP down in there, I was even mashing the main wick.

Now to find new wick, flavor wick and rebuild the ones I hosed... Glad I stopped to consider what I was doing, since the other tanks I used at first were of a type that had a central hollow wicking system and this type of cleaning had no consequence.

DON'T SHOVE ANYTHING DOWN YOUR MOUTHPIECE ON A BCC. IT WILL MASH YOUR WICKS AND YOU WILL BE UNHAPPY<>

I've been rebuilding Kanger heads for my protank mini for a few months now. There is a video on youtube where the guy uses a machine screw to form a 4mm coil with .32 gage kanthal and 1mm silica wick doubled over twice. Even though the guy in the video uses flavor wicks, I have found that they are very unnecessary. I get better flavor and more vapor just using the coil alone. My coils never leak or gurgle and I don't get that foul taste that happens as the flavor wicks start to get dirty. They are also much easier to clean :)

hey spawnsharks, whats up ?

I do the same but use Q tips to just keep the air channel clean/dry when needed

when you go down the throat of the mouthpiece you'll run right into
the small diameter center hole of the coil chimney -- can't imagine getting paper towel/toilet paper
into that, AND if you did (if you did) create enuff force to distort the wick/coil
if you think you are, try just holding an old coil in your hand and doing it
I might be off base, but let us know... :)

maybe find some good stuff here...

Flavor wicks are there for a reason--to prevent leaking. Even people who use very thick eliquids and advocate removing flavor wicks only recommend removing one strand--or two at the most.

why try and out think the engineers that built the device...
if they didn't think the flavor/supply wicks were necessary
they absolutely would rather save the money & time installing them
I can only imagine the manufacturing process it would save not installing them
how do cartomizers work (filler surrounding coil)
I consider the flavor/supply wick like a little storeage area or tank, on the coil

compare it to buyer of a new/used pick-up truck ;
go out and buy some ridiculous oversized tires because they look cool
then can't understand why there is no handling, bad gas mileage,
and their front end steering and suspension is prematurely wearing out,
due to thinking they improved the designers design--cool
HP-gear ratios-suspension parts etc.are also required for cool conversion

or sorta like moving the headstones, but not the graves...
