Really good info here... I've smoked analogs lightly and heavily for nearly 12 years and never had a problem until I burnt the filter. I sort of get the feeling it might be similar.

1. The original pre-filled cartomizer has a harsh and spicy throat hit.
2. After refilling with VG eliquid, it was definitely smoother and didn't get that weirdness and tingly tongue for a while.
3. After a couple refills I got that weird harshness and tongue tingly again.

So it's been touch and go. I dug through the forums and I wonder if I'm getting burnt element taste/effect. I've been using the same pre-filled cartomizer lightly for 2 weeks. I never really got a burnt taste like many describe though. So I took it apart and wanted to post the pictures in the "burned cartomizer" thread but I'll post it here. I just started using a fresh pre-filled cartomizer and it's harsh, I wonder if it's the element burning that I'm experiencing.

I wonder if I'm tasting burnt element and that is the harshness.

Note the browness is burnt or nearly burnt element. 2 weeks use lightly and one instance of it getting hot enough to burn a hole in my pocket (my bad, i didn't take it apart before throwing it in there).

This one is the center element that surrounds the filament that heats up the elements and vaporizes it, it's nearly black in the middle. I wonder if this is what's giving me that weird throat hit and harshness, a little tongue tingle.

oh sorry, somehow double posted.

Anyhooo, I'm pretty sure now I'm getting a burning element effect. I've changed the way I draw, slow and smooth to avoid the "popping" sound and it's not as harsh and I don't get that tingle on my tongue. I believe the "popping" sound is not a good thing it only seems to happen when the element is burned.

This! for me....

I'm allergic to certain types of air fresheners. Extremely allergic to glade plug-ins. I noticed a different flavor to some of the juice.

This is me. I have to be very careful about air fresheners, cleaners, laundry soap, dryer sheets...the list goes on and on.

Well, did you make that Doctor's appointment???? Go back to analogs? Whatsssss uuuupppp? So.... whaddaya think you will do?

I ask 'cuz I'm iffy on some of the flavorings and wondered what you plan to do. Also, Bump.

I'm sorry. I had not realized there was so much attention to this thread. Somehow I was not getting email notifications and I thought it had been lost in the gambit. In addition to that I was really discouraged and kinda dropped off the forum for a while. My PVs are in a shoebox and I have not given them much attention for a while now. I am smoking analogs again for now. I just contacted my doctor for a possible referral to an allergist yesterday, been busy with stuff and have not had a chance to make an appointment for something that was non-urgent. I REALLY miss my PV. I will keep you all posted and thanks for all of the ideas.

It isn't necessarily BOTH PG and VG you are allergic to. I'd bet it is likely a flavoring chemical. Food grade flavorings can cause allergies and make finding a liquid that doesn't include that particular chemical can be difficult. A common indicator of an allergy to flavoring is tongue swelling and mouth irritation.

I've sent someone a message about this thread and hopefully she can come and share her experience with you Adrockr. I asked her to PM you but hopefully she will also post so others know if they have the same thing happening.

Hang in there. She can tell you which of the few vendors she uses so you can try some samples of their liquids. I belive VaporStation, Halo and Ecopure she can vape ok. Dekang liquids makes her tongue swell so every Supplier that resells Dekang she avoids.

Thanks Helen. It occurred to me that it might be the nicotine also. Perhaps it is a reaction to the nicotine in its chemical form.

If you've been vaping for awhile and had no trouble, it's more likely it's THAT certain liquid.
I've run into that problem myself so it's time to start experimenting.

If the throat don't get better, see your doctor.

I experimented with several liquids with the same reaction, even the regular liquid I was enjoying for the preceding month with no reaction. Different vendors too. Same.

Used brand new blank cartomizers with fresh drops too. Same reaction. Not burnt.

I cannot believe you are not getting some reaction to analogs as well, those containing varying amounts of all kinds of chemical compounds particalized by fire! Nicotine from combustion is also the same as free-base nicotine.
Would suspect you had reaction from some cross contamination PG/VG and flavoring residue, unless you started over with NEW atomizers carts etc. Try a juice from cognot.com pg and "mild" flavor or unflavored VG/nic; a sensitivity to PG would linger for time, however tongue swelling is a sure sign of some kind of anaphylaxis.
You really should get some Allergenic testing just for your own safety, even if you don't want to risk PV use vs cold turkey or Pharma assisted quit program...which I highly recommend you undertake!
