I'd have a "price" - but always offer to do one for free...
a) It'll make people appreciate it more - everyone loves getting something for free, especially if they know it's valuable, but if it's always free, then free isn't "special". Make them feel special!
b) You might get someone who wants you to build them 10 coils...you (or the store) should get paid for that
c) It'll give them the idea that they SHOULD tip - and an idea how much...

So I'd post a little sign that says "Custom Builds! $2 (single coil, silica) - first one FREE" or something...

I would rebuild them for free once my friend put me on the payroll for $15 per hour (min) and full benefits

He owns a shop and wants YOU to basically work for way under minimum wage (I honestly can't believe there is going to be a line of people wanting builds from open to close willing to tip more than a buck or two), promote HIS store and HIS reputation at ZERO RISK to him?

Also if you build a subohm coil for someone who "claims" to know battery safety and actually does not, has an accident with a battery overloading. Who is liable if they sue? Not your "friend" because you are not one of his "employees". You are an independent contractor working for tips only.

I would say skip it unless he is willing to actually employ you at decent wage and he is willing to take responsibility for your builds.

Just my 2 cents

These r all good points he says he will pay me an hourly wage plus tips we havent worked everything out yet. Good point about battery safety. Im just kind of excited to do something i love for work but yes the money must be right or he will take advantage of that. Ans ive only known this guy for a bout a month so thanks for the heads up

Actually, if someone built me a coil in a vape shop, and it shorted, and I was injured, there's very little question that within a few months I'd own the vape shop. LOL.

HE should have a "waiver" drawn up - wouldn't have to be too complex, just a pad of paper the customers have to sign that says something to the effect that "I understand that using low resistance coils in a vaping device requires knowledge of battery safety, and that there is inherent risk to any use of rechargeable batteries. I agree to waive, release and discharge _____ vape shop harmless from all claims, liability, loss or damage arising from the use of custom coils." Or some such - from a lawyer.
