Hi Shneck,
The metal taste should only linger for the first ml or so, normally caused by Not tempering the Kanthal or the Nichrome.
Some say NiChrome has a longer lasting metallic taste than Kanthal; others say it's the opposite; some are just more sensitive to it and can taste it all the time.
You don't mention the type of RTA you have so it would be difficult to guide you to the relevant Tutorials. You don't mention the Tut you have followed.
The types of SS you have are really for the type of Juice you use, VG 325, PG 400, I know some use 316 I haven't tried it, I have 200 also (freebie by the Wonderful Folk at The Mesh Company) I haven't tried it either, I have a SS wick in one of CE4's and it works well enough, just makes for a Hot vape.
Let us know what you have, to get best advice.;)

Sorry took so long to reply to you wonderful people for trying to help me but it seems i posted 2 of the same thread and they closed the other one and i thought it was over. I've been using the Phoenix with kanthal 32awg ,36awg nichrome 32,34,36 with 325 and 400 stainless seems like I'll make what I think is a good setup and it it on provari reads 2 ohm and then it will pop soon as dry fired.voltage is at 3.7v seems like the parts where the coil attaches to the posts of rba is where it always pops.It will also glow red in those spots before the coil glows also when dry fired.

Yep. Definitely, your SS Mesh isn't oxidized well enough. It's shorting out on the mesh, causing the resistance wire between the post and the wick to get SUPER hot and pop.

Can you explain exactly how you are rolling the wick, and seasoning it? Be descriptive.

You may be wrapping your coil to tight. I found this out the hard way. For me I found it best to find a screw or bolt to form the coil around then slip it on the wick after oxidizing and pretreating the wick.

This seems to indicate that there is too much space between the ends of the coil and the terminal posts. Both ends of the coil must be as close as possible to the post it is attached to
Just keep experimenting and eventually you will get better at it

Use Kanthal A-1 wire, use 400, 316 grade stainless steel mesh, oxidize it by burning it with ejuice (preferably with a propane torch and not a lighter or candle which can leave soot residue behind) 3 times, quench it 3 times, and only wrap 4-5 turns to your coil depending on the AWG of your wire. Check the resistance and make sure it fires up before you fill it up. Check for hotspots. Done.

If you use a paperclip to roll your mesh it's pretty hard to wrap it too tight since it leaves clearance once you pull it out. This also allows you to bend the wick if you need to a little bit.

SS Mesh is something that has to be mastered... a month ago I would cuss and throw things like crazy as I tried for 45 minutes to get the coils to stop shorting out before giving up. Now, I can prepare a SS Mesh wick and be vaping on it in 5 minutes flat, and that's WITHOUT using the cigarette paper trick(which to me leaves a bad taste on the wick).
