Theres like 500 of them out there.

I'd swing by the Modding forum and read up there a little bit, theres a bunch of scattered info there. I'll try to give you an extremely summarized version of information, this is in no way all inclusive or even 100% accurate.

1. What are they...
RBAs or RBATs or RATs etc, are rebuildable atomizers. They come in different formats. The "Genesis" style is usually characterized by having 2 chambers. One that acts like a juice tank and another that has a + and - post to connect your coil (more on coils in a sec) a wick runs from the coil chamber to the juice chamber and you have happiness (if you get it to work). Other types are drip types, CE2 'style' and a variety of others. Genesis style RBAs are the most popular in general, though everyone has their own tastes.

2. Where can I get them!?
A variety of sources. The most readily available RBAs are the DID and DID clones, a quick search should find you plenty of info on them. They're relatively inexpensive compared to some of the more fancy models like the Zenesis but you get what you pay for there.

3. F*ing magnets, how do they work? Err, I mean, RBAs.
All RBAs have a coil and a wick in different configurations. For the coil you use NiChrome or Kanthal "resistance wire" you make a coil out of the wire of choice and connect it to the positive and negative posts in your RBA, wick configuration is dependant on your setup. For Genesis style people tend to lean towards stainless steel mesh, 400x400 mesh is the most common these days but a lot has been said abotu 500x500 (500 holes per inch, 400 holes per inch, etc) You roll it up, oxidize it via flame, insert it in your juice and wrap your coil around it. Again, this is a horribly simplified version of what you should read up on.

4. Should I get one?
Yes, if only a cheap one to play around with. They are an 'advanced' vaping product in that it takes a lot more fiddling than just squirting some juice in a carto and honkin away on it. You'll want to read, watch videos, etc or you'll end up stabbing the nearest organism with whatever you have handy due to frustration. It's a good experience when you get it, and once you get it, you 'Get it' and can recreate that experience with less and less frustration every time.

Theres A LOT of info on these forums and elsewhere on the interwebs, do a google for "Genesis style atomizer" then a youtube. You'll have more videos and webpages than you can shake a provari at. Enjoy.

This post should be a sticky at the top of the rebuildable section!

@Lance. Thank you for the detailed write up. I guess my only question would be. Are they cheaper to rebuild and maintain than getting cartos, clearomizers, or regular attys? I do like the liquid chamber and being able to rebuild my own atty idea. And would this RBA be used on older PV's or wouod I need a VV device? I have an Omega 6v PV and have found the newer clearomizers don't wick fast enough for me.

I would encourage you to look into a VV PV, but it's not neccessary. Yes, you can use an RBA on your current set-up. The trick will be to make your coils to produce the vapor that suits you. When buying the RBA you should have, and know how to use, a multimeter. You should have resistance wire and your choice of wicking material. If you choose to go with the SS mesh, you'll want to have an inexpensive torch. And, yes, the RBAs will pay for themselves and all the neccessary hardware over time. Let's say an atomizer cost ~$10. An RBA, plus accessories costs ~$150. A normal atty lasts 2 weeks before decreasing performance. In less than a couple months you would have spent the money on consumable items, when you can built a coil/wick for pennies on the dollar. Higher-end RBAs seem to be engineered to be virtually bullet-proof, too. My A7 RBA is constructed of SS from top to bottom.

Leprikonn, rebuildables are waaaaay cheaper to rebuild(replace coil) than to replace cartomizers or atomizers.

Lil bit of an idea about how much cheaper: Let's say you buy a standard 510 atomizer for around $8, for about $8 you can buy 100ft of the resistance wire for making RBA coils. It takes about 3 inches of wire to easily make a coil for an RBA. 100ft=1200inches, 1200in/3in=400 3in coils, 400/52(1 coil a week)=7.69........this means you could rebuild a RBA with a new coil each week for the next 7.69 years for 8 bucks

So, yes.....it's cheaper but just like Lance said, it is a lil bit of an advanced thing but once you get the hang of it it's actually pretty easy and very very very worth it.

hehe.....hmmm........where should I start.........

As previously mentioned, there are a ton of different rebuildable atomizer out there, some are expensive and some are not. I won't go into all the different kinds right now as that is a looooooooong topic.

A couple of good starter RBA's are these:

Wyvern Rebuildable Atomizer
this is just yer basic rebuildable, it is more of a "dripping" rebuildable as there is no "tank" but it is super easy to build and learn how to make coils and is good for tasting juices or as a back-up.

The Griffin - Rebuildable Atomizer Tank
this is a good, cheap way to start into a "genesis style" rebuildable tank atomizer. vapes just about as well as all the expensive higher quality options out there. If you can master this then you can handle any of the higher end, higher quality, more expensive genesis styles once you decide on one

The atomizers of my "Atomizer Army" are:

Phoenix clone
V3 (same as the Wyvern one up above)
The DuD (same thing as the Griffin)
G-Tank-US (friggin awesome)
The BliSS (amazing genesis style)
AC9 (very cool atomizer)

Searching "genesis style atomizer" or any of those above on this forum should point you into some good places for learning how to make wicks and coils. Feel free to PM if you get jammed up.
