I want to learn how to rebuild my Viva Nova 2.5 attys. I know this information is somewhere on this forum, but I can't find it, so I'd appreciate it if someone could direct me to a good guide/video or tell me how to do it.

I'd also like to know what matterials I'll need and where I can get them at a good price.

Finally, how long before an atty needs to be rebuilt?

Thanks

You'll now by taste change, draw change. Take a look at the top of the coil and you'll probably see a big blob of gunk. That's when I change the head. Some people are proactive and clean the components on a regular 2-3 day cycle. Probably not a bad idea since they are sooo easy to take apart and clean.

To rebuild a head, you'll need resistance wire and wick material. For resistance wire, most use either nichrome or kanthal A1 wire 32-34 ga. For wick material take a look at this very long thread http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/modding-forum/284030-wick-materials-safe-vs-dangerous.html. It essentially points to silica wick, cotton wick, bamboo wick and SS mesh.

Also, take a look at this thread - http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/atomizer-mods/295410-vivi-nova-rebuild-tutorial.html

Are you looking at rebuilding from scratch or just changing the head?

I'm only asking because someone asked me that the other day and they didn't realize you could buy the heads for a few bucks and just screw them in.

I didn't realize that you could just buy the heads. Thanks for heads up (pun intended). :p

I know many others have already done this many times, but I just rebuilt my first head and thought that someone might be sitting on the fence about doing this themselves. I used boiled (3x 10 minutes) unbleached/undyed 100% cotton crochet thread from Joanne's. Used four strands of thread. I think I will try three next time, 4 seems a little much. Used Kanthal A1 35 awg wire, 4 wraps, gave me 2.1 ohms. I didn't reuse the little insulator piece that was on the stock coil (don't know how the hell they got that on in the first place!). Taste at first seemed a little off the first 6-10 draws (cottony?). Has settled out or something as I no longer taste that off flavor. Now the flavor is better than I was getting with the factory heads using whatever they use for wicks. I don't taste even a hint of burning from the wick or the little insulator at the base of the head. Took me about 10 minutes start to finish. Won't be buying anymore replacements unless I need parts!

In the rebuildable sub forum, there's been a lot of discussion about wick material. Concern has bee expressed about the standard silica wick shedding small pieces that can be inhaled. Cotton (in many forms), bamboo yarn, and others have been tried. Cotton seems to produced consistently good results, so that is what I used, this time. As I mentioned in my previous post, I used Kanthal A1 33 awg resistance wire.
