Rebuilding Kanger coils

I've recently started rebuilding coils/wicks for my Kanger Protank.
Works fine in terms of vapour production and correct resistance etc.

However, for the first 1ml or so of ejuice, it tastes like burnt plastic and nastiness, and probably is doing me some kind of harm.

Am I missing something? Do I have to do something with the wick before I use it?

I'm using Nichrome wire and Silica wicks by the way.

Edit: Turns out you have to dry-burn the wick before use. Thanks anyway guys

Try torching your Silica and wire before making the coils. Burn off any contaminants.
