Well yesterday my iClear 30 coil failed, and not that I couldn't buy another but I figured hey I've been rebuilding this Kayfun for a little while I wonder if I can do an iClear 30. So I pulled it apart took the old coils out pulled the gaskets etc. I've played around with fixing connectivity on ce4's before but not building coils. So I wrapped a approx 2ohm coil out of 28 gauge planning on making it a single rather than trying a dual and I only have 28ga on hand. I slipped it in, cut the negative pole about where I figured it needed to be, slid on the insulator and slid it down into the lower position. Put the center post back in place after cutting that leg just long enough to clear everything properly. Checked resistance, came out around 1.8 but since I hadn't compressed the coil and dry burned I figured that would be alright. Dry burned let it glow, pushed from one side against the tube after firing to compress it, pried it slightly away from the tube checked it again and 2 ohms. Right where I was shooting for. Made sure everything was clear and decided to wick with cotton since I have bunches around and like the vape on the kayfun with cotton. Slid it through just like I would a kayfun but with much longer wicks so they would reach the bottom of the tank. They didn't fill the channels in the top gasket so they wouldn't seal so I took two more shorter pieces and went corner to corner leaving the coil exposed but filling the gap with wick so hopefully it won't leak above the coil. Added liquid to everything like I would on a Kayfun to keep from burning anything not much vapor but part of that is how closed in the coil was. Put everything back together and filled, works great. Seems to be wicking better than it was with the stock setup, I'm vaping at around 11 watt's where 9 was max before without getting a burnt taste on most juices. part of that may be the dual coil vs. single, but overall it's throwing the same or more vapor, along with good flavor. It's not as good as my kayfun but it's another option to have laying around with a different flavor in it that I can swap over without having to do anything cleaning wise. Since I never seem to have enough atomizer's through the day without cleaning one.
So just a positive of taking the jump into rebuildable setups that sometimes you can rebuild something that isn't really meant to be buildable and make something useful. If anyone has questions or wants to do it I could take pictures but it was pretty simple all together and I'm happy with the results for a few minutes of time and a few inches of kanthal wire
Take care!
