I'm not a rebuilder. I'm not mechanically inclined. I'm also pretty lazy, and prefer to pay for convenience. However, I took a chance and purchased some of the pre-made coils and wicks at fasttech - 50 in a pack for $3.30. After a few tries and a couple of YouTube videos, I've got it down pat! I know a lot of the fancy builder folks are probably laughing right now, "Look at this lady, all impressed with herself because she learned how to rip the guts out of her protank heads and replace them with ready-made new guts..." But for me, it's a huge step.

I fear VapeApocolypse, so the more I can learn, the less afraid I am of the day the FDA regulatory hammer comes down. For everyone out there like me, who is afraid of veering off the path of plug-and-play vaping, start out with pre-made coils and wicks. It's easy, it's a lot cheaper than buying a pack of full replacement heads, and you'll feel very accomplished. :)

For interested parties, the SKUs on fasttech are: 1593911 and 1593900. I can attest that these work with Protank/Evod heads (the original ones, I can't speak to the newer heads).

I use those too for PT heads. I dislike wrapping coils, so the premade ones make rebuilding a piece of cake, besides cutting the cost of replacement down by a factor of 10. The next step is to stop replacing the coil each time, get some organic cotton balls, pull out the silica wicks, dry burn the coil and replace with a wisp of cotton for a wick.

I tried this once, and I'm not sure if I did it incorrectly, or if I just don't like the taste of cotton. I do plan on giving this another shot with organic cotton balls (I tried it with regular ones). This will be ideal if one day I can't purchase the premade stuff!

I too had a problem with the taste of cotton the first few times I tried it, so I stuck with silica for months. I think the type of cotton makes a difference or maybe I used too much at first, but the organic cotton is working pretty good for me now.

I build............... a lot. I like to experiment and see what my Ideas will accomplish. I also like to Grab a ready made for a quick fit when appropriate.
Fasttesh is a winner in this respect. I have many different resistance coil/wick combos and several Ready wires. They do a good job.

My current Omega build is 4 FT nr-r-nr wires in a nice .67ohm Quad Dragon coil layout.
60y.o. that likes Clearo's to Kayfuns..............Blowing Clouds and loving the Flavors!!! :vapor::lol:

Vape on and Keep building:)

I guess that's what I'm doing, huh? I'm..... BUILDING! (Granted, it's like I'm building with legos, but we all start somewhere!) Thanks everyone! I feel like there's probably a ton of people lurking on this forum who are just like me.... they are middle-of-the-line, happy with their ProTanks and VV/VW devices and not looking to jump right into the big world of rebuildables, but yet at the same time, they would like to try their hand at tinkering and saving a few bucks here and there.

FYI -- You can rinse and dry burn your coil without removing the silica wicks.

Brilliant! All of you!

I just recently ventured into rebuilding my Kanger heads. I've had to experiment with different gauges of wire, but I've finally settled in on 30g (about 7-8 wraps on a 1/16" drill bit, and I'm landing between 1.5-1.8 ohms.) Re: the cotton, I'm using plain cotton balls from Kroger - $1 for 100. Are you letting your cotton saturate enough before you try to draw on it? If I know what flavor with which I'm loading my tank, I'll drip a couple drops on the cotton and let it soak in real well before using. I *LOVE* cotton over silica. It feels smoother and I think it tastes better (but I could be imagining it ;))

I was just looking at Fasttech for a spool of wire when I saw the pre-built coils. Pretty inexpensive alternative. I'm enough of a geek that I find great amusement in wrapping my own wire :D

Enjoy

This is exactly how I started rebuilding...took me 9 months to get there too. The first time I wrapped a coil, I ended up re-wrapping a used, pre-wrapped FT coil out of sheer "WTH" and when it worked, I was hooked. If you get good at rebuilding protank/evod heads, actual wrapping and using rebuildable atty's is a snap. :thumb:

I salute you for admitting on a public forum that you use ready made. After all,'He Men' build from scratch.
After my rather tiresome he man phase, I use them too. On kanger tanks.
Try a little cotton as a flavour wick..

Well I'm a girl, so, I would be a She-Ra.... but I readily admit that I'm a sucker for convenience :) With the premade coils, I have been taking a little piece of whatever I snip off and using that as a flavor wick. I do have a question for all of you pros, though, something that popped up today after I originated this thread - can a flavor wick be responsible for gurgling/flooding? (Like if it's too thick, or not thick enough.)
