Take this with a grain of salt because I have no experience, but it seems to me that the BVC coil designs have a really long lead running from the top of the coil, which I suspect turns into a hot leg when you apply current to it. Might have more success (and way more annoyance) using a res-no res join.

Have you thought of getting some NR-R-NR wire? I saw one video where they rebuilt a BVC coil, and he noticed the center of the coil gets hot, but there was an area where it switched to NR wire.

I agree that you don't have to remove the press fit, but I do find the added space to be helpful when I install the coil. Also, most of the coils I've rebuilt have been Ni200, so I really like having a better view with that annoyingly finicky wire.

NOOOOOOO, If you torch the coil and squeeze it a little with your tweezers, (Leave space though, just compress a little while its glowing).

NEVER dry fire the OCC head coils. (RBA, yes, dry fire it up). The OCC heads have rubber insulators on the bottom and if you dry fire, the coil can heat up very quickly, and melt the rubber insulator. Then you're screwed.

Well I haven't bothered because no tank or RTA I own has a leg that long. But what you suggest was along the lines of what I was thinking of, that the leg leading from the top of the coil to the bottom will get quite hot if its resistance wire, which will probably lead to burnt taste and possibly some harmful byproducts. But I don't own any BVC tanks so I haven't bothered with that. I don't think the Subtank needs a NR-R-NR wire, it would be nice but hardly essential, IMHO.

I thought Kanger switched to PEEK insulators...

If its the original subtank, they still have rubber ones. The PEEK ones were sent out as replacement to distributors. I have rubber ones in mine.

the PEEK insulators were for the RBA section of the subtank.. the OCC coils do not have PEEK insulators, and thus should not be dry fired.

That's why when I said do not dry fire the OCC coils.... Never. I did plainly put that lol. Sorry if there was confusion. That's why I said torch the coils holding them with pliers before putting them into the OCC head clearly.
