I would like rebuulders to tell their story of how they got into building. In hopes of encouraging non builders to get started in building.

So i will start.

Back then I was vaping on a sub Tank Nano, and I was sick and tired of inconsistent coils.

Some coils were perfect but about 80% of the coils either popped and spit juice in my mouth or Dry hits and burned cotton.

I watched Rip Trippers video about rebuilding the OCC heads.

That video made rebuilding stupid simple.

I finally received consistent where 95% of the rebuilt coils were perfect.

6-9 months later i wanted more airflow and starting building RDAs but i hated dripping.

I saw a review of tge Goblin Mini RTA abd i fellbin LOVE with vaping all over again.

the GMini gave me flavors just as good as my beloved Freakshow Mini and I no longer needed to drip.

If you are willing to share your rebuilding journey please do so.

I'll chime in with it didn't start rebuilding till around the time the Atlantis dropped.
I was doing good all in all, but quickly realized the flavor was good but coils were not cheap. But wire generally is cheap. I enjoy sweet juices and never got great life from any coils.
Started with a delta II with RBA and a mutation x rda. The flavor was great and the mutation is where I cut my teeth with building. The delta didn't last as it is a tight draw.
Start basic with simple single wire coils and once you get that "perfected" you can try other types. I would not recommend jumping straight into claptons and the like until you get good at no shorts/Hotspot. Patience is key and with practice you can recoil and wick something in a few minutes.

Thanks for sharing.

I would not go back to premade coil heads if Someone gave me a lifetime supply.

I loved my Nautilus Mini but was tired of the inconsistent coils and the cost. About that same time, I also wanted to learn DIY and be able to test my juices. I watched a few YouTube videos and bought a Sapor but everything tasted like nasty cotton. I thought my juices really stunk! I bought a GP Spheroid v4 and have been quite happy since. I'll give the Sapor another try soon.

You make me want to break out my gmini now!

What a great thread idea! My post is a little bit off topic. If it's too much so, I apologize in advance. I decided I want to ease into building by first using prebuilt coils on my STM, but I haven't been able to find a Youtube video on this. I found tons of video on building everything else, but not on the more simple task of how to use a prebuilt on the STM RBA. Should I just look at the video of doing a regular build on the STM RBA and take it from there? I've got the prebuilt coils and the Japanese organic cotton, but I have no clue what to do next.

When I first started vaping 2 years ago I started with the Protank 2 then the Protank 3 mini and they were ok enough to get me off cigarettes but something inside me wanted more vapor to be satisfied. Then the Aspire Nautilus came out and i thought it was the best thing ever invented and I stayed on that for the next year but the coils for me were good at first but i noticed they would only last like 3 days and at $4 a pop I started to get really frustrated. I started to watch videos on how to rebuild them and i was like LOL no way can I do that! but I started researching RTA's and RDA's and i was like " now THAT I could do!" so i got the required tools and a TOBH clone and my first try at a micro coil to me was almost perfect! I never felt so proud! So i started practicing on other RDA's then when i was comfortable with those i moved to RTA's. RTA's were a little more difficult to me but with a little practice i figured them out now i would NEVER go back to pre-made coils i actually hate them now lol! I now make my own coils for pennies a piece!

For me it was simple. I only started vaping, real vaping, several months ago after cigalikes. As soon as I heard about the FDA stuff, I ordered my first RTA and never went back. I actually liked tanks like my Kabuki, but I saw the potential difficulty of getting replacement coils down the road and figured why invest in stuff that I may not be able to use over the long term.

I simply LOVE the GMini.

I have two GMini in storage, a spare GMini base, and 6 spare bell caps.

If i could buy spare bell caps for the Silverplay Nano that is all i would ever ever use because tge Silverplay Nano fixes most of the issues of the GMini. You should read tge Silverplay Nano review in my blog.

Well, I'm a lot more old school than the other posters so far.
I started vaping with cartomizers and remember what a pita they were! You had to have your trigger finger ready, if you were lucky enough to even be home, when your favorite cartos came in stock and hope you were fast enough to get them even then! I can remember Ikenvape selling out within an hour and a half after restocking! Sometimes much faster! If you wanted a 1.2-1.5ohm carto you really had to be on the ball! Of course this was before VV/VW was a viable option.
Then there were two nights a week spent on them, one night cleaning and washing them, another refilling them, it was a chore to vape.
Along came the Genesis style tanks, using SS mesh for a wick and wrapping a coil around it. You'd roll up your wick, oxidize it then wrap a coil around it. After you got all the hotspots worked out they vaped great as long as you didn't bump it or lie it on its side. I still have a DID clone, an AGA-T clone and a Z-atty pro (designed for the Provari). Then RDA's became the rage, so much easier to build and decent flavor, but they didn't travel well (read leaked) and the "don't drip and drive" movement got started.
Then along came the Kayfuns and the world has been a better place ever since!

No worries at all.

A LOT of people are vaping pre made coils. If these deeming regulations are allowed to stand the coil supply will Dry up and people may simply have to go back to the cancer sticks.

Rebuilding on the SubTank Mini isba piece of cake.

Watch videos of rebuilding tge Kayfun.

Its easier to build on the RBA than building on a Kayfun because trapping tge leads us much easier because the RBA has Walls ib both sides of screw heads.

Unscrew tge screws place tge leads under the screw head and tighten the screws snip tge leads flush wick tge coil and put the cover if tge RBA on. Fill the tank abd you're cooking with gas .

Watch Kayfun builds abd if you can a build of the SXK Nebula Wine. It traps tge leads exactly the same way the Sub Tank Mini traps the leads.

If i may be of assistance PM me.

Good luck in building.

Eskie tgere are rebuild videos for both tge Nautilus BDC and BVC coil heads.

I told many here that i rebuilt tge Subtank Mini for my sister. I finally got her moved over to a Kayfun and she has started building. Good thing too i move up in tgebfoyr corners area in five more weeks. I will be lving painted Desert about 5 miles outside tge Park boundary.

Cartos were before my time. I started in clearomizers CE4, gsh2, and evod.

Thanks for sharing.

I really got started vaping on a nautilus mini. But as discussed inconsistent coils and price were frustrating. I tried recoiling a nautilus and that was a total failure. Plus the vape quantity just wasn't enough. I bought a couple rda's and a mech mod. Had the shop build a set of coils on my Igo W3. I kept practicing on the other until I finally got the hang of wrapping a good coil on a mech. Then started building on the Igo. The deck on that top is a pain in the neck. Next up I coiled a Fogger even more of a pain than the Igo. Finally I got a doge, and a plume veil clone. Bliss!

The final piece for me was rayon. Too me a totally superior wicking material. Once I learned not to use it like cotton.

This is exactly the kind of direction I've needed. Thank you very much. I'll do as you say, watch the videos of the Kayfun and SXK Nebula Wine, and see what I can do. I'll definitely shoot you a p.m. if I have questions.

Thanks again!!

I also prefer Rayon as wicking material. Thanks for sharing your journey.

I hope this thread and rebuild videos on YouTube will encourage the newbies to learn.

I started diy juice before I wrapped my first coil. Premix was always way too over flavored or sweet for my palate so I struggled to find the groove in 2013. After I figured out mixing I was like "hey, if I can mix my own stuff I can wrap my own stuff".

Early on was a struggle. Silica wicks and wrapping on drill bits. Never consistent. But I figured it out and became proficient with igo and kayfun single coils.

Then I got some screw drivers with accurate diameters and switched to cotton. Then life got really easy. 1.2ohm 2.5mm kanthal became second nature. I have a good jig now and it's even easier. I've tried all kinds of diameters, guages, and ohms but keep going back to .8 - 1ohm on drippers and 1.2ohms on kayfun style tanks. I think it's all I'll ever need.

The short story of my post is to find your preferred guage, diameter, and resistence and just stick with it and not worry. I wrap and wick pretty much the same way every time and couldnt be happier.

With coil jigs and youtube videos galore there is no reason that anyone cant do it themselves and find their sweet spot. I find the process of rebuilding quite relaxing now. A little practice solves many years worth of problems too.

Rebuilding really is a piece of cake.

I will just say yoy have a pleasant surprise coming

A properly wrapped coil and properly installed wick will simply blow the doors off of pre made coils.

Wicking is an art form. Too little wick it pops and spits. Too tight and you have wicking issues or Dry hits.

Make tge wick tight but still loose enough to slide in tge coil without damaging tge coil.

Prime the wick with ejuice abd tge cotton will swell to fit tge coil perfectly.

As i said. PM if you need help.
