WOW! This thread has exploded since my last visit here. Very entertaining to read all the interpretations of Malty. I still believe with all that's in me that Malty is EM, PG and VG, period. There might possibly be an additive of vinegar or some type of enhancer or sweetener but the primary flavor is ethyl maltol and because EM has somewhat of a malt type taste and because of the "maltol" ingredient, it was named malty. It's figuring out the ratio Don uses that holds the key to a full fledged Malty clone. The smell of EM crystals when you first open the bottle IS what Malty tastes like, nothing more, nothing less. That's my story and I'm sticking with it.
