Don't laser pointers have a tactile switch and mosfet on a PCB? Shouldn't you just be able to pick up a laser pointer at the dollar store and use that? I'm not telling, I'm asking. Seems like a good way to get it all in a nice small package for almost nothing.

Theoretically, yeah. You can also take the mosfet and switch on a PCB board out of an old manual battery (though it's hard as hell). The only thing for me is, I don't know what those are rated at, and if either of them can handle 5 or 6v (I don't know a ton about this, so someone else could chime in here). Certainly if you had a laser pointer that ran on CR2s it would work. They're out there, but expensive, and usually illegal to sell in the US because they're >5mW lasers (Usually like 200mW-500mW).

Like this seems like it would be really easy to mod for 6v vaping, but I can't buy it since I'm in the US. focusable 100mw high power red laser pointer 2*cr2

I'm particularly curious as to how the FDA gets to regulate laser pointers. Are they classified as a food, or a drug?

No need to use a mosfet anymore if you want a micro switch in a 5v box.
Found a much easier way without having to use a regulator, along with a separate mosfet. MadVapes has a 5v regulator with a control pin that is absolutely freaking perfect. Great specs for ecig use. I'm vaping on one I built the other day using two 10440's and the above mentioned regulator with a 50ma tact switch. I get about 5 hours of rock steady 5v vaping on a full charge.

Look at the 6th picture in the description for the circuit schematic.
