Redds from Happy Vaper is awesome! Perfect for beginners IMO

Hey guys, my Redds starter kit arrived today from Happy Vaper and I thought I'd write a little something on this amazing little device.

I started vaping again about a week and a half ago after stumbling upon a Smoke NV kit in my local news stand. While the Smoke NV is good by itself (battery lasts most of the day before needing a recharge) their cartomizers really suck IMO. I actually was just looking for cartos on Happy Vaper when I saw the Redds starter kit, which they spoke quite highly of, and claim that it's the closest thing to a real cigarette. Since I needed a spare battery, I figured I might as well hop on the Redds kit and get a portable charger while I'm at it.

I was smoking a pack a day at one point (especially whenever I'm in the Philippines because cigs are so cheap compared to Canada) but since I've been actively trying to reduce my cigarettes I managed to cut it down to about a pack every 3 days.

I've been playing with this thing all day, and I'm loving it. It's small, the battery is around 50+ mm, so with the cartomizer it's just slightly taller than a regular cigarette. I love being able to fiddle with it and twirl it around my fingers just as I do a regular cigarette -- I found that a lot of times, it's more about the habit of smoking than the nicotine addiction itself. The finger twirling, the throat hit, the motion of taking a drag, etc. Since this thing is almost the same size as a cig, I can do all that.

Their cartos are gooood. Lots of vapor and a pretty good throat hit, depending on the juice you're using. I'm experimenting with different flavors from Jugheads right now (I'm loving Jugz Koffee and JokeSmoke 2.0 is starting to grow on me).

I tried plugging a carto in with the Smoke NV battery and while I have to take a harder drag to get the same amount of vapor, it's still pretty good. I plan on carrying that as a spare if ever the PCC runs out, maybe keep it in my car or something. The Smoke NV is a lot longer, which explains why it takes a lot longer to die. But it's also slightly heavier, and is pretty hard to hold and balance with two fingers.

Battery life is pretty good, for such a small battery. It lasts me about 2 hours or so before it runs out. But thanks to the PCC, you always have one charging so by the time it runs out, a new battery is fresh to go. It takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to charge. They claim you can charge a battery 5 times if the PCC is fully charged, so that's about 10 hours of vaping at my pace which is pretty damn awesome.

It looks slick as hell too. The PCC and the battery is made out of smooth rubber coating that reminds me of an iPhone sleve protector and is about the size of a king sized cigarette pack. It flips open like one too. And their cartos have rubber tips, so they don't pop out like the plastic ones do but instead they gently slide out.

My only gripe? I wish they sold this in white to look even more like a cigarette! But at least the LED is red. LOL it's not that big of a deal really, just a preference thing for me to make it look and feel as much like the real thing. I went back to analogs because my eGo-C didn't quite do the trick (like I said, it was more about the habit of smoking for me; plus, I never could get enough vapor out of that thing for some reason... Maybe I got a faulty one, I don't know).

If you're just starting out and looking to replace the analogs, I can't recommend the Redds kit enough. I've never tried the Bloogs or the Volt though, so keep that in mind. Granted it's only my first day but I can already tell I'm going to love this thing. I don't plan on quitting entirely (personally it's too hard to give up the wake up smoke, after dinner smoke and before bed smoke haha), but if I can get down to 1-2 cigs a day I'd be ecstatic.

As an aside... I'm taking a few trips in August and September, and just the thought of having these with me on a 12-hour flight REALLY tickles my insides. Nothing quite like being able to vape in peace while everyone's asleep *grin*

Nice review. I agree with almost everything you say, colour being the one thing I disagree on.

The Redds kit is IMO the best starter kit any new vaper can buy. Small, light weight batteries, PCC the size of a pack of smokes, and the PCC holds a fully assembled unit, unlike the 510PCC, or other (Bloog/Volt PCC's).

808's are the kings of the pen-style PV for performance, and the Redds kit gives you everything you need to get you through a day in a nice small package. I gave mine to a friend to get her off the stinkies, and I'm seriously debating purchasing a second kit for my self. As much as I love my 1000mah eGo Twist with Phoenix cartos, there's something to be said for having something highly portable to avoid having to do "the speach" every 5 minutes when out and about.

I haven't heard anything that bad about the Redds, I have a similar 510 setup, but it was very annoying to get it all separately and get it working good. Even for people with bigger, expensive pvs the Redds seems like a good back up. If I had some money to waste I'd probably pick one up. :p

After getting my SS LT and twist I sold my redds kit with spare carto's for a song... I still wish I had it from time to time, but 2/3 the reason of letting it go was to hopefully get someone else into vaping. I know it worked to get me back in love with the idea.

It was what I hoped my first kit would have been for me. I still have nothing bad to say about the kit other than the battery life just didn't keep up with me. With what I have now, it would have been a good to still have it for the right circumstances to still provide the satisfaction.

Yep. It takes one hour and 40 minutes to charge a battery from the PCC, and in the couple of days that I've been using it... When I'm vaping heavily, the battery will run out on you while the other one's still charging. Luckily, I have a spare battery from my Smoke NV kit which I plan to carry around with me at all times just for this situation :)

Been using the Redds kit for a week and its been a god send. Portable and im not always near a power supply during the day in the field so the portable charger is right handy. the ability to carry extra carts ive filled in the box is just the cats meow when i run out and need a vape to get past a craving but find myself with a near dry cart in my pv + i can charge the box as im driving to these remote locations from my Ford escape's USB port .BONUS!!!

I have 2 employees wanting the REdds kit now and they want to quit so were going to set them up next week with the starter kits and both tried my RY4 and love it..so a couple of bottles of RY4 each guy to get them started. (p.s personally loving the VG myself).

A few questions from people using the Redds for longer then i have.

1) how long did you find your cartomizers last you before you moved to a new one and how did you clean your old ones if you even did? Im on about 4 fills on 3 of them right now.
2) how long did the batteries last. the starter kit came with 2..just wondering how many charges ill get out of these before its time to replace them.

How long cartomizers last really depends on the liquid you're using. I've had juice that kills cartos after a couple fills, and other that lasted over 10. I've tried cleaning them a couple different ways. Boiling them, and pushing water through them with a syringe. If you are going to clean them, it is very important to dry them very well. Look up the "taryn spin" That is probably the best way to get the water out, but they will probably still need to sit a couple days to dry out.

With that said, they never really worked right after cleaning them. I don't think it's worth the hassle, cartos are cheap enough to throw em away every couple days.

I don't know about redd kits specifically, but you always see batteries at that size rated for 300 charges. That's probably a pretty good estimate.

That was the exact same thing for me Bluenotebook and to make it a little worse I had one battery not lasting as long as the other while vaping so I really started getting into trouble.

The nice thing if you are into the redds is they sell a 4 pack of batteries if that is what you want to stick with.

I decided I wanted something that would last me the whole day on a charge so I went with a bigger PV instead. It's all about what you want to use and then getting what you need to make sure you are always have something to use.

With it only being able to be charged in the case ( unless they now have come out with something to charge just the battery ) it would be hard to get a head if you had spare batteries unless you woke up in the middle of the night and switched them :)

^^^ shades, it was actually your review that made me buy the Redds kit :) found your posts on the looooong thread from a few months back and watched your videos too. Put the battery thing under consideration, but I figured I could always carry spares with me -- what mattered the most was the vapor production and form factor.

Seriously though, this thing can produce a lot of vapor. Are the Redds cartomizer low resistance or something?

CrazyCanuck, based on the Happy Vaper website a battery can be recharged 200 times and the PCC 300 times. I don't know how accurate those numbers are though, we'll see throughout the year I guess, I'm easily charging both batteries 3-4 times a day :)

good luck taking vaping cigs/equipment on a flight. i was warned beforehand that security will confiscate the stuff (the whole vape idea freaks them out...they can't be sure what we have in there, i guess) so had to store all my ecig supplies in luggage that went in plane belly. carried nothing on me, not even in carryon. i wasn't about to take that chance. it was frustrating, but at least i had my supplies once i got home. hey, if you do take ecig in your pocket, pls do let us know how you made out going thru security. fingers crossed.

Now I gotta dig up that thread, I watched the Redds videos that were up a while ago, I think there were two at that point. shades videos! :p

It sounds like most people aren't having a hard time at all, check out this thread from a little bit ago; http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/canada-forum/312631-airplanes-ecigs-question.html

I am glad you found the information useful and the reason I made one, was at the time there weren't any out there at all. Once I saw someone else do one I linked it in my info. The reason I made the follow up was incase someone did see my review would know what I found lacking after a while. It appears they have done what I had hoped :D

I "ohm'd" out 10 carto's with a high end meter and they are all bang on 2.0 ohms. Seem QC is good for them to not even waver from 2 by a point or so. Obviously what helps with the warm vape and vapor production

It's so funny when I watch them for several reasons:

#1. The coughing fit I had, obviously I don't do that anymore, as that was my first "haul" of a PV since my 510's back in 2009.

#2. Most importantly, just how NOT that is me... So if anyone coming to the vape meet is expecting that apparent shy and quiet person :D I didn't even know he existed until that video :p

BigD, thanks but I'm not worried about that at all. I have an eGo-C that I carried with me on multiple flights, and they've never even been noticed. Canada to US and back, Canada to Hong Kong and back, Hong Kong to Philippines and back, etc.

All flights I also carried a 10ml bottle of juice that I never put in a ziplock bag (I was scared they'd take it away because it's a weird color and you have no idea what's inside so I didn't "declare" it) and nobody even batted an eye all times. Now that I can fill up cartomizers I can safely tuck away all liquids in my check-in baggage :)

The last flight I had en route to Chicago, while waiting to board in YVR I saw a gentleman who was talking on the phone and vaping in the passenger's waiting area. I've never seen anyone vape indoors so openly (much less inside an airport) so that makes me less nervous about bringing e-cig equipment while traveling :)

You'll be okay to travel, my man. I've got a flight to NYC a few weeks from now that I'm preparing for by stocking up on supplies myself.

Awesome! That's what I thought, the vapor production on these units are too good to be anything else. Thanks :)

Yesterday was the first time in a really, really, really long time that I went all day without an analog, all thanks to this bad boy right here!

I flew out to the US last month with my Redds and had no problem whatsoever. I carried them in my backpack (carry on) and no one raised an eyebrow - even when I went through US Security twice in Chicago (9 hour layover due to "mechanical issues" and I had to go out twice to up my nicotine level).

My only issue was trying to decide which 10ml bottles to bring in my little plastic bag - damned contact solution takes up too much space in the baggie and was cramping my flavour testing. :)

That was you, Shades?!? Ya ....... ... you made me spend *more* money with that video. :) Thanks. The kit is actually a great starter/introduction and I don't regret getting it in the least. I still have my Redds, but it has been sitting idle while I've been playing with my egoTwist.

I will go back to the Redds - it is a convenient set up for work and the battery life isn't a big deal for me since I still keep to my "smoke schedule" and go out for a vape in the morning, at lunch and in the afternoon rather than vaping at my desk. (I have gone into a conference room a time or two though ... my boss laughs at me when I do that, but has no issue with it)

I tend to do more heavy vaping when i'm home in the evening and the weekends and the Twist or Riva are much better suited to a quiet evening on the patio with a good book.

I wasn't willing to risk losing an eGo (good to hear you had no problems though) so I carried a disposable pv in my purse on flights to and from Vegas last December and had no problems. It was a relief to puff on it a few times in the washroom on the plane just after we went through some turbulence.

I haven't tried the Redds, but I like the Bloogs. I'm enjoying the new Bloog Aurora model. It works well and looks pretty too. :)
