Refinishing Stainless Steel

Ok I have a few mods/apvs that are polished and I want to give them a raw machined look. I know I can hit them with some fine grit sand paper or scotch bright but I don't want the finish to look to "brushed" Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Finer grades of sandpaper will get it past brushed (over 1000) and actually turning the workpiece get it cleaner looking. Past that some rouge and a buffing wheel gets it back to really shiny, which I suppose you want to avoid.

Right i dont want shinny just want to get that raw machined look, ill try what you suggested on a piece of scrap SS tube
