Remove/Refinish Black Chrome Vamo

Can you refinish this Black Chrome Vamo?

Mine does not seem to be wearing off yet, but I know it will.
And to be honest.... its a little to slippery for me.

What are some options to remove this finish?
I wouldnt even mind just doing a matte black finish.
This will be my backup anyway... and want to practice on this one before trying to refinish my stainless steel Vamo.

Also, how do you get this top cap off?
I watched Rhino's video and saw he used channel locks to slowly pry it off, but mine is just stuck...

Can I spray something on it, or soak it or something to help?
I already scratched the finish just a little with the channel locks and vice grips I tried.... sigh.

It takes a bit of force to break the top cap loose on the vamo..

I had a huge set of channel locks, and yes, i scored the top cap on my unit.

But my disassembly videos use common tools.. For just that reason..

Of you want to send me your vamo, i will glady refinish it for just the cost of the materials..

Pretty awesome offer! I ruined (not terribly) my top cap, but in all honesty, I only bought the mod for the controller. I dislike tube mods. I'll be making a bottomfed box for it soon.
