If so, what sort of sweetener am I supposed to add?

I don't know that you are "supposed" to add any sweetener, but it would be a good idea to have some EM solution in your kit regardless. (TFA sells a 10% solution as Cotton Candy Flavor)

In small amounts it adds body, can help meld flavors, and smooth out flavors with "bite".
In larger amounts it adds more body and sweetens.
In even larger amounts, well, that is where you get the cotton candy flavor from.

There are other sweeteners you may want to have around, but EM is a constant presence when I am mixing, even if I never use it during that mixing session.

It also depends on the fruit flavor. Some taste like candy while others taste like juice, i.e. lime. Tried that tonight and Hoosier's post sent a lightbulb off in my head... really needed to add more EM to get a lime candy taste.

There is also a custard that FA makes that also adds more body to the fruit flavor. I think it is supposed to make it taste more creamy. Still experimenting with that.
