Hey all!
Been vaping for fun for a few months now. Starter on some Egos, now onto an Ego Spinner with a Protank 3. vaping purely for fun, I think this could become quite a cool little hobby. I'm after lots of flavour, and relatively big clouds!

I really would like to try my hand at building my own coils and grabbing a nice cheap mech mod clone. Nemesis clone's seem to be pretty popular, am I right in grabbing one of those? Also, what RDA is a nice starter? Below is a list of items from fasttech that I've done a bit of research on and which seem to be okay to try.

  • Nemesis Mod Clone
  • IGO-W Style Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer
  • Nitecore I4 V2 Li-ion Ni-MH Ni-Cd Smart Battery Charger
  • Samsung INR18650-20R 3.6V 2000mAh Rechargeable Li-Ion Batteries (2-Pack)

What gauge of kanthal should I be looking at, 28?
Thanks in advance for any help or criticism I'll receive for getting in over my head too early. :p

I use 28 ga wire on all of my four Igos (W and L) and it works well. I found that I use 30 ga wire on my smaller atomizers (RM2 and Cyclone) to get a bit higher resistance without having to make larger 28 ga coils. With 28 ga wire in my smaller atomizers I was getting too much heat and it was cooking my juice into a flavor that was very unappealing to me. I also use 32ga to recoil the Kanger heads that I use at work.

Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that 28 ga will work fine, but it never hurts to have a spool of other gauges on hand. I have 28, 30, and 32 and use them all depending on the application.

You will not want to get your batteries and charger from fasttech, especially if you are going mech. Use a reputable US vendor on those like RTD. :D

As far as gauge - EXACTLY what gpjoe says :) You can go to sites like Kidney Puncher and pay 1.95 for 3 ft of each 28,29,30 etc so you invest 4-8 bucks and have plenty to experiment with. Find your favorite(s) and order a big spool :)

Even if they are a reputable brand like Sanyo or Samsung? Surely I can be fine with this from FT.

Okay sweet, I'll start with 28 and see how she goes. I'm not sure I can order from Kidney Puncher as stated above, as I'm from Australia.

As for the actual selection of mod/battery/RDA, how am I going?

EDIT: What size drillbit is good for doing my coils around?

1. Nemesis is a solid clone. Mine is a Hcigar clone.

2. There are a couple of different versions of the IGO-W. I believe the first version only had 1-1mm hole which doesn't really support dual coils. And 1mm (even if you had 2 of them) seems too small to me. I like an airy draw. If you are looking on FastTech check out the description as well as the discussions and reviews to make sure you know what it is you are ordering. Also, I believe the IGO-W is 20mm and the Nemesis is 22mm so they won't look seamless together. This does not affect the performance, only the look.

3. Nitecore i4 v2 is a great charger. I have one and have been very happy with it.

4. As far as battery, I'm only familiar with the AW IMR's and the Sony US18650VTC3, VTC4 or VTC5's. I know many people use the Sony VTC's due to their higher Amp rating. I'm not an expert on this so you should probably get someone else to weigh in on this. As far as ordering them from FastTech, I have heard that battery's on your order can delay your shipment by up to 2-3 weeks. That is in addition to the month it usually takes to get to the US. I don't know if this is still the case or if this also applies to shipments elsewhere. Here in the US, Ebay usually has good prices on batteries.

5. You also NEED to have either a multi-meter (and know how to use it) or a ohm meter to test your builds before firing them on your battery. Just because your battery can fire your coils doesn't mean it's safe. So spend some time familiarizing yourself with all the ins and outs of ohm's law.

6. As far as drill bit size -- what ohm level are you trying to achieve? Are you running single or dual coils?
