so I took of my cart and saw that a bunch of the poly got caught into the metal of the atomizer. I used a tweezer and pulled off the stray threads and then I pulled up this piece that was under that metal tip inside the atomizer. I realized later that this was part of the atomizer. the pieces look like its polyfill material, but I confirmed its part of the atomizer because I see the same in my other atomizer, except this one is neatly tucked.

I removed it and it seems like tis working ok, but is there any harm in this? or is there any way I can repair it? it's a joye510 btw.

That was the wicking material that sits below the bridge.
You have created a dripping atomizer. LOL As long as you drip e-liquid directly into the atomizer you will be fine. By removing the wicking material it no longer has the capability to wick the e-liquid from the cart.
So drip 3 drops directly into the atomizer on top of the bridge and vape for 5-6 hits and you will be good. No need for filler in the cartridge. Take a cart and remove the filler and use the cart as a mouth piece. Remove the cart, drip, replace cart and take a few hits. Good to go.
Keep it wet, it could pop quickly if ran dry.

I assume you mean the fabric wick that sits under the bridge? It's not going to hurt your atty to remove it, but I would use that one for dripping only now. I don't know if de-wicking it will make it totally incompatible with carts since I've used the Volcano 510 atty with them and it doesn't have a wick to begin with. I'm sure someone with more experience can give you a definite answer.

As long as you haven't removed the bridge you should still be able to use carts. It should still wick through the mesh on the bridge.

yep thats rights, you may have to mod your carts with bluefoam or somthing along thos lines to make it wick faster but if the bridge and mesh are still there youll be ok using a cart!-)

Will the thickness of the liquid have any bearing on being able to use cart and filler?
It is my understanding from the pics I have seen and from looking at mine with the bridge removed that the wick is wrapped IN the coil, thus directly feeding the coil. The wick wicks juice from the mesh which is absorbing the juice from the carts filler.
Dripping feeds the mesh (and wick, when present) and fills the cup that sits just beneath the coil, which is why you get better vaping hits than strictly using the cart and filler method.
Perhaps there is still some wick in the coil, thus allowing you to still use the cart and filler method?

I don't want to give any bad advice here. Correct me if I am wrong.

Congratz on your first atty mod, even if you didn't mean to do it..lol It won't hurt a thing.
You can actually remove the mesh and the bridge as well, but that would for sure make it a dripping only atty. Some people swear by de-wicking and de-bridging their attys, but you can ruin a good atty if you are not careful. There are video's on youtube on how to do this if you are ever interested.

What do you mean by pop quickly?

They will quit working-the coil will become dry and the coil/wire will separate/split and the atomizer will quit working. We call that popping an atomizer. Sometimes they make a pop noise but mostly they just die a quick silent death.
