Removing gold plated attomizer?

Hi. Need help on this. My atomizer was gold plated. After using it for a while. I notice some of the gold went off. It concerns me, dont want any of those to be inhaled.

So, i want to remove it completely. What should i do? Is it safe if i using chemical? I read some using hydrocloric acid to remove it.
