Renaming the E-Cigarette

I have read several articles about renaming the Electronic Cigarette.

I for one would support such an initiative, I do no like explaining that I am smoking an 'Electronic Cigarette' to people who ask.

I have lately begun to sometimes say I am using an Nicotine atomizer, but that isn't exactly true.

I saw an article that TW would like to refer to them as E-NI (Electronic Nicotine Inhaler), any change would be for the better.

I believe I shall begin to call them simply 'NI', Nicotine Inhaler, to anyone who asks and no longer even mention the word cigarette.

So many people read these forums, that if a name was agreed upon, by Poll, or by other means, it might just catch on and eventually change it for good.

Ummm... This is the e-cigarette forum... If we rename it, personally, I would call them vapor snorkels.

They're PVs to me. Personal Vaporizer.

When a stranger asks about it, I tell them it's a PV ... and immediately tell them what the abbreviation stands for, and what it does.

Sadly, electronic cigarette was placed & stuck years ago. Notice the name of the forum.

As an ex-cigarette smoker I find the association disagreeable.

So, for me, PV it is.

I agree and have always said anything "cig" has a nasty connotation right off the start.... I like PV..... "Personal vaporizer" has a nice ring... amost sounds exotic....

Nicotine has a bad connotation too and not everyone uses them for nicotine (only 99.9%!). I didn't realize nicotine in small doses is harmless until I found the forums...

I typically refer to my device as a mod or PV. I also find the term "electronic cigarette" to have negative connotations, and I'm quick to point out to people that I'm not "smoking" my PV, I'm vaping. The problem with the term personal "vaporizer" is, here again, the term "vaporizer" comes with a whole different connotation which can be problematic.

Perhaps it's due to my age/generation/whatever, but I don't 'get' the connotation. I'm aware of vaporizers designed for illicit usage, but I am pretty sure those are even lesser known than even our PVs. Of other alternatives, PV seems the best, of suggestions I've heard.
But, in any case, this is a purely academic discussion. The die has been cast.
Just as I object to us calling the heating element an atomizer, and we're stuck with it, we're pretty much stuck with electronic cigarette. I simply do my share by not using it.

If someone asks me i tell them it is a PCM. Then they will be like what the hell is a PCM. Then i tell them it is a Personal Cloud Maker or Personal Cloud Machine then a take a big old drag and make me a cloud. They usually get it after that. Anyways my vote is for PCM

I am slowly switching from the term electronic cigarette to PV. I find when talking to most people (Not the cigarette Nazis) they can relate to electronic cigarette more easily--and positivity-- than to PV (Because they don't know what it is) or whatever other name we could come up with for them until they are more main streamed. I think it depends on who you are talking to too and how open minded they are. I am sure the longer I own and use a PV the more my mind will change on what it should be called but for the newly converted and the sake of explaining to the lay person what it is, electronic cigarette has been working then introducing it as a personal vaporizer.

But then I have been lucky and everyone I've talked to about them, smoker and non-smoker, have all taken them positively.

I like the term "PV". Works for me, but when someone asks who is not in the know, it's really easier to tell them it's an electronic cigarette. Although not the best representation, they get it a lot faster than if I had to explain it in its entirety. If my wife had to rename her PV, she'd call it her pacifier because it's always in her mouth. Sometimes I have to remove it from her hand when she falls asleep. She really loves her PV. I use and enjoy mine a lot too, but I don't bring it to bed with me.

I'm all for PV but prior to ecf - when I was searching for a replacement to the analog, I searched electronic cigarette. There is not a smoker on the planet that would search for Personal Vaporizer. It's all about getting the word out really.
