So I find myself in the same situation that many others seem to be in or have already gone through - sifting through the myriad choices of mods out there and trying to decide which to buy.

I'm wondering how feasible it would be for vape shop's to rent out various mods for people to try? If I could test out mods for something like $5-$10 per week I think I'd probably do it until I found one I really liked.

Maybe an alternative to rentals would be to start local groups of 'Vapers' who are willing to exchange and/or rent mods with/to one another? I'm thinking it would be a good idea to have a central online signup for such groups and some sort of rating/tracking system in order to establish accountability and keep the riff-raff away. Maybe ECF could even be the central place for such groups if they are so inclined?

Anyone know of either of these options already happening anywhere?
Anyone think they'd use these options if they were available?
Are there any experienced Vaper folks out there who have mods lying around that they'd like to rent out?
Anyone see any major issues with doing such a thing? (I'm new to vaping and might be missing something obvious)

Among friends we exchange/ loan Mods to one another with the understanding "you break it you own it". Loaned my Provari out to friends for 7? months before selling it....gave them an idea of what an APV/ VV is all about. The downside is sometimes am without a valued APV but the upside is myself and friends get to try almost every PV out there.

One big issue would be safety and it comes in different ways.

Safety of the product, since the one renting is a beginner " in terms of mods ", proper usage is at risk.

Safety of the user, with the product safety being said if you havent used a mech mod properly it can cause severe damage, dont know which ones or what kind since im new as well.

Health safety, viruses can be passed around through sharing of drip tips, etc. such as mono for example. Not saying that they wouldnt change and clean/sanitize drip tips but who knows if someone got lazy and didnt clean it right?

So yeah.. There's probably more problems but there are benefits as well as you stated.

Hope this helps

I dont see any business doing anything that only brings in $5-$10 a week. They would need to rent out 250 mods a week just to pay the rent. There would be to many liabilities and risks involved to make it feasible. I suggest you start going to all your local vape meets and make friends. This way you can just trade till next meet. Even with this some one will inevitably feel shorted or ripped off at some point. The best rental program is a clone. Spend $20 on the clone, if you like it buy the real thing.

@ retired1 - I was thinking a deposit system could prevent that.

The main issue I could come up with is condition of the mod upon return and how much to charge for damage.

If I'm going to put down a deposit that covers the cost of the mod, I might as well purchase a new one outright.

I rented my daughters flute for one year. Then returned it and rented a nice silver plated advanced version from the same company. We now own it. In both cases we had to give a $250 deposit and a credit card for their file. So the point is a rental fee of $37.50 a month and a $250 deposit plus if you don't return it they charge your card for the full price of $1,075.00. I think rental of just the mod itself would be a great idea but also not really a money maker unless a few of them actually did walk off.

Don't believe in credit cards. If I don't have the money to get it, I don't get it.

LOLLL Credit Cards are a fact of life nowadays. Wife and I buy EVERYTHING with our CC...always pay them off each month and with all the bonus points programs available it's a HUGE win- win. Example....been buying gas lately and paying $1.15 per litre. With free bonus points paid 57.5 cents per litre. Like I say it's a win- win.

"Some" of the local vape shops will let you try before you buy, you can use their testers or put you tank on their devices. I like the provari in the shop but they do not have the Zombie edition or I would have one. I will wait till I can actually afford it now. I will probably buy the SVD from them. Some of these local shops can be really competitive with online vendors.

I bought my MVP2 from 101vape, for one it would have been 42.50 with shipping. I can get it local for 64.95 with 30 mil of juice. Had I been buying one of them I would have most likely bought local and had it in my hand that day instead of waiting 4 WHOLE DAYS. I was buying 2 so I could gift one for Christmas so the savings there was worth it to me.

Personally I do not think I would want to rent a used mod, if it was working fine but stopped I would be worried about being charged for it. I am also a hoarder of technology and devices and grow attached. If I thought I might use it I would probably keep it. I have a son with a couple of friends who vape. I can at any time get rid of my eGo passthroughs, twist, VV3 or any clearo that I own. I just do not because I "might" use them. If I want something I drool over it till I buy it.

Some people may not be afflicted the same way that I am.
