I don't know anything about Linux. I tried it back when it was new, a Red Hat version. It was way over my head back in those days. But now I hear it is much more user friendly.

I pay the high price for apple to make things easy. Though if things don't go easy you then get more  due to paying the high price.

Deb, nothing wrong with Win7. I had a Win7 laptop. But the screws were falling out of it, then the jack wouldn't work anymore. So I got this computer instead for 400 bucks. Nothing wrong with the computer. The computer was running fine. But I changed Microsoft password, and now I can't get back into my admin account, on the desktop. I reset password, everything. I am just ticked. Microsoft did not get it straight. They ended up sending me to a Microsoft community forum. I got one reply there. Win 8 was great, once I figured out how to use it. Then I was forced to take the 8.1 upgrade via the store, and it totally jacked up my computer. Since those times, I've had very hard feelings about this. I seriously doubt if I will buy another Microsoft os again.

all of it's over my head, but I know when some others come on you'll get plenty of opinions. One day there was about 5 pages of folks talkin bout various versions. In fact, haven't tried the search since we switched over, but you might find it if you searched. Don't remember how long ago it was, but there was a lot of talk about it. Try searching for posts by penguiness. She doesn't post her a lot but I'm pretty certain she was posting about the puter stuff.

I looked at Apple. They were way too expensive for me. Might as well try Linux. I wish I had a buddy who knew some stuff to help me, if I need it though. LOL. Most everyone now uses a phone for computer stuff. The screens are too small for me. Not comfy. I like the desk top better, although it isn't portable. The laptop was good, but the guy I took it to said the cheap ones like I had, only lasted a couple of years or so. I paid more for the laptop, than I paid for this desktop. I don't have satellite, games, or anything like that, not tv. All I have is internet. If I lose that, I am gonna be HOT.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Deb, I thought I had found my answer but I did not. It was regarding coming to a thread and being able to go to the point where you last posted. That was the only way I knew where I was. Doesn't seem to have that now or maybe a new way. You are right. I should not have deleted it because it could have helped someone maybe. I wasn't thinking. (naturally)

No, I didn't find the one you mentioned, but I sent her a message, requesting a recommendation on those 4 Linux makers. Hopefully she will see this, before I start the redo process. If it fails, I don't know how I will get a Linux cd. Maybe Best buy would have them? They used to, but I don't know about this anymore. Either that, or maybe I can go to the library, and download one to a dvd.

I keep my watched threads set to unread, then when I open it, it automatically takes me to the last thing I read. But yeah I don't think they have the last post thing anymore. I read something about that, but now can't remember what I read. grrrrr.

I wanted to do it today. I didn't realize a lot of computer folks were here. This must be done pretty fast. I need documents that are in the admin account. That is one issue, as I don't know if the Apache Linux, will be able to read Windows Apache files. I have all of my notes in files via Apache Open Office. I luckily have my photos, and documents backed up. I can't even send 3 photos saved to my guest account, to my external hard drive. It wants admin password to do even that. Grrr.

Penguiness thinks Linux Mint will be better for me. So that is what I will use, if I go the Linux route. That is one sigh of relief. Thanks Deb for mentioning that.

Look what you gone and did, Deb. Now you drug me into the lounge again. Last time I was here there was an inebriated individual trying to start a riot.
