Well I finally reformatted the Win8.1 computer. I put it off as long as I could. Now I know why I put it off. I was in Microsoft hell for over 12 hours yesterday. I still don't have it all the way right. It put me back on Win8, and I am ticked. 162 windows updates to do. There is one left, and it refuses to work. Once I can, I will have to learn how to repartition the hard drive, and add Linux to it. I hope to be able to boot either one. Time will tell. That is if my nerves hold out that long.

I don't envy either one of you! I had enough trouble getting java to work right on Mom's computer. Thought hard about shooting it....

It's not too bad, but when she has issues I might as well be dealing with a noob, just had to explain to her what a blue screen of death is and help her troubleshoot it, then walked her through changing the size of her virtual memory so she doesn't get that one as well.

... or someone could just get her a mac.

Had this issue with my mother - tidy little mac mini solved it all and then some. No IT calls in the night to me for over a year.

Actually my next computer is going to be a mac, but in her case she hates change more than I do, it would be a bloody nightmare for me if she got a mac

A week, max, to get over any learning curve. Plenty of tears before bedtime while that happens, but once it's over, there's no going back for most "casual" computer users.

I tried to teach my kids about computers. My son is fine with just his phone really. But my daughter was not interested in learning about computers, but she liked to use them. I said when you move out, how will you be able to fix a problem? She gave me her big smile, and said sweetly, "why Mom, I'll just bring it to YOU"!!!

Good evening !

Ok, so I get a call at work today for an auto quote.

I get all the info (that he will give me)...run everything...and surprise !!!

"I'm sorry, we are not able to issue you an auto policy at this time."

"Why ?"

"Well...you have had 3 at fault accidents in the last 6 months"

sigh...
