First off, I can barely see straight I've been vaping so much. That being said, I'll try to be coherent.

Being a recent switcher to cartomizers, I spent yesterday and today with my new Reo Mini using attys again. Sadly for my attys, I believe cartomizers (dual coil) are still the way for me. It's been nice testing flavors and getting the hang of using attys again, but I simply can't hang with the constant burnt/metallic taste. It's just terribly inconsistent, and the chances of having a good hit aren't worth the others.

The endless cycle of using attys: The first 2 hits gurgle... the 3rd and 4th hits are decent. By the 5th hit I'm bracing myself, dreading the impending burnt/metallic taste. Soon after, I gag and it's time to squonk again. And round and round it goes.

At any rate, I'm enjoying my Smoktech dual coils as always. I haven't yet gotten the hang of squonk-filling them yet, but it shouldn't take long. I've decided to never have more than 2-3 carts filled at a time, because they get thick and funky if they sit too long.

Granted, I have a couple flavors that are simply too rich to fill a cart with, and for those I'll use attys. But for the majority of my vaping, it's carts all the way!

Same here, cartos are great with the Reo. I bought a few cisco LR atty's and just cant be bothered with them. To much work IMO and its never consistent enough for me. Sure maybe if I spent more time with them I would enjoy them, but I'm not. I use LR boges and they hit and taste the same way every single time.

Atty's are rather temperamental. I call them spoiled because I think it describes them correctly. They want just the right amount of juice or they throw a fit and give you that burned hit. Give them too much and they gurgle and spit juice.
It took me a few days to learn what I was doing wrong.
Like you said, gurgle, decent then burned. That right there is the key.
The gurgle: should be slight, not the vaporless overflood, just a tiny amount of gurgle
The decent: good taste, good amount of vapor, then one or two great hits
The burned: no explanation need, horrible

When you squonk, it is best done while sucking slightly on the atty. Don't squeeze really hard, easy, steady pressure. Listen, you will hear just a little gurgle as the juice enters the atty. Stop!
Now try it. Two or three hits. Then squonk again, easy, slow, little gurgle and stop
I think the key is listening to that gurgle, and knowing just how much juice you should keep in the atty.
I have always found the best hit is right before that burn metalic one.
Spoiled little buggers, but you can play their game and win.

Yep...Karen's got it. When you use your atties for those other juices that don't do well in carto's remember the count and give it a little squeeze with a sharp little drag on your 5th or 6th drag and you'll be good to go. I had to train myself to do this because I HATE the dry burny atty taste and it sometimes takes hours for my mouth and nose to forget it. I rarely let it happen now as I constantly wet my atties. Now it is second nature and I hardly think about it at all. :)

You also have to remember attys take some time to break in. For some people it may take a few hours and for others it may be a couple of days. Depends on how much you vape. For me its about 3 hours then Im good to go. I hate the burnt taste too but once you get past that point its golden!! I also use boge lr cartos. Just a lot easier for driving and out and about.
