Ok...

A standard RM2 will NOT fit. The catch cup is too small. You need to ask Rob to mill a RM2 down to size to fit a 14500 mini.

A 2.1 uses an 18490 battery instead. Consequently it's a bit larger in depth ("fatter") to accommodate the larger diameter battery.

You can "go there" and get a RM2 for a 14500 mini, but be aware of the limitations of those batteries. You need to stick to pretty high resistance builds. There's only so far you can go with that battery capacity.

The OG Minis were made pretty much from the beginning of REOs mods....late 2010, up until about last year sometime. After the Mini, he made the Mini 2.0 (18490 battery) for awhile.....I think less than a year. The RBAs started becoming the thing, so he just started making the catch cup bigger and dubbed it the 2.1. I'm not sure about exact dates, but that's the evolution.

Addit: the milled down RM2s (all of them) will fit all the metal REOs, including the OG Minis and the 2.0s. When he first started selling the RM2, we had to specify OG Mini or Mini 2.0 and he'd mill it a little extra. But he noticed a LOT of people were requesting that, so about 6+ months ago he started milling all the RM2s down enough to fit any metal REO without our having to put in a special request.

Thanks, JC Okie, I haven't kept up and didn't know the RM2 fit the old catch cup size...hmmm, have to rethink the order I've been plotting (*very* late to the rebuilding party and not at all confident about it, but the cost of good atomizers is galling).

My two metal minis are from spring, 2011...not the oldest but still rare enough that there was the scramble of a Sale Night when a batch was released. They were produced for a good while after that, long enough that supply could catch up with demand and they could stay in stock.

The mini 2 had both the larger well and battery, IIRC.

The rebuildable attys (esp. The RM2) are awesome. I wasn't sure I wanted to tackle them at first, either. But they're easy, fun, cheap, and provide a GREAT vape. It's well worth jumping in. I'm a retired grandma....if I can do it, anybody can. Once you try it, you'll never look back. I could send you some samples of wire and wicks if you want to get an RM2 and give it a go. I promise it's easy and totally worth it.

mkp, what atty are you using now? What resistance? LR 510? With the RM2, they don't flood, and you would be amazed at the vape quality. And you just make new coils every now and then. A new coil and wick will cost pennies. You'll save so much money. And there's really nothing to it. You can get as fancy (or not) as you want, but a simple coil -- a strand of wire wrapped around a paper clip -- with some wick (crochet thread, knitting yarn, cotton ball) threaded through it, and you have a better atty than you've ever used. I swear. We can walk you through it in about five minutes.

Thank you, that is a very kind offer.

I've just got to take the plunge and stop finding reasons to put it off. Thinking you still had to request special milling for the originals, I waffled over getting a 2.1 to go with....then it was "which color?"...you can overthink yourself into paralysis for a good long time. :)

Ha. True. Actually, the 2.1 would be a better REO all around because of the battery. You'd love a 2.1. Really. Those little 14500 batteries are pretty lame by comparison. If you've been vaping since July of 2009, I'd think you're due for an upgrade. A 2.1 (any color) and an RM2 would definitely rock your vape!

I've settled on EmpireMods' bridgeless 1.8, long ago Gil recommended their 1.5s but they run too hot for my ADV. Got a couple of 2 ohm HH357s hoarded but just can't justify the cost when the EMs are reasonably close in flavor production.

I have a little heap of things I need from reosmods, tube assemblies, springs, button covers...I figured I'd make one order with it all. Can you give a recommendation of a good starting size for wires & wicks?

Well, the wire....I use mostly 28 gauge (AWG) wire. Honestly, I have LOTS of several gauges if you are into experimenting and playing around a little. I like a pretty warm vape, so I do about 8 wraps of 28 gauge Kanthal-A wire. Maybe get a sample of 28 gauge and 30 gauge. Wicks: there are several schools of thought on that. Many, many people use 100% cotton wicks. They (we) use either cotton thread, 100% bamboo thread, or cotton balls or CVS rolled cotton. Some people use silica, and I believe you can get that on Rob's site. Some people are using Ecowool or other wicking mAterials, but there's time to experiment with all that once you're cooking with the RM2. You'll need a little screwdriver (think eyeglasses repair or a little kit from Dollar Tree) and you'll be set. You can get cotton thread and bamboo thread from Walmart or Michaels. (Or you could let me send you some samples....I have a lifetime supply ten times over!!!).

If you like the 1.8 ohm attys, you might just get 30 gauge wire for now. That'll get you closer to the ohms you're vaping now.

Edit: I know what you mean about the HH-357s. Ha. I used those all the time before I got into rebuildables, and I treated them like they were gold! Ha. Soooo expensive....
