Reo #2 is imminent, and I was thinking of adding my own touch to it with a slight paint job. Nothing major, just a few accents. Has anyone done any Reo painting? The one in the mail is a powder coat finish, so I guess my question would be which type of paints have you used on these gems? And if a clear coat was applied after?
Thanks!

Don't know anything about the painting.

My Reo is a Copper Vein, and is well known to change to a darker color because of handling it. (sweaty palms, juice on hands, salt and etc)

...here is a thread to get you started. I used Rustoleum Clear Enamel, and it worked great.

BUT HOWEVER, since I have a Brass Reomizer and Brass Button cover, ...it's now evident I'm going to have to get the EverClear (Protectaclear) to officially seal it from tarnishing. I could've just ordered it ($19.95) and used it on my Reo as well.

After a week of use, the Rustoleum is working really good.

If you're down to bare metal, you can use alcohol ink then cover with a clear coat.

I haven't personally done it, but I know people are using clear engine enamel to clear coat atomizers that they have applied a patina to. That will stand up to the high heat and should have you polishing less. Just make sure not to get any on the inside and that it's all the way dried before use. YMMV.

I just received 3 blem doors from Rob today that I ordered specifically for this purpose. I'm getting excited about doing this, I think it's gonna be fun. I'm not super artsy-crafty but there are so many cool idea's floating around out there and they don't seem very hard at all. I'll post pics to this thread when I've got one done.

Here is the polished aluminum door with some alcohol ink. It's not dry yet but I'm liking it already!

Beautiful Penny!!!!makes me want to get some spare doors and try this. Is the alcohol ink something I can find at big box craft stores? Any pointers on technique? :)

Thanks mommabird! Yes, I bought the ink this morning at Michaels. The brand they carry is called Tim Holtz Adirondack and the inks come in several different colors. They are a little on the pricey side, $9.99 for a pack of three colors and the bottles are only .5 ounces but a little goes a long way. they had about 5 different 3 packs in different colors, they even had some metallic colors. As far as technique goes this was my first time and all I did was drip the different colors onto the door and tipped the door from side to side so the different colors ran together.

You can also make your own with alcohol and a Sharpie!

Ooo...even better. I guess you just hack up a sharpie and soak in alcohol? Sounds fun ;)

More or less, yep! There's a Youtube video of someone doing it around somewhere out there.

You can also use things like felt stamp pads and saran wrap or whatever your imagination can come up with to add textures to your colors.
