I don't know lowest resistance allowed. But I know that I have run a 1.5 and 1.8 ohm on the lowest setting.

Specs:

15 watts maximum power output
Wheel adjustable voltage dial
Improved battery life 2 x 's avg. , we have a new controller that is MUCH more efficeint. avg. 12 hrs per charge
batteries (16340 type)
3-3 to 5.5 volt adjustment
Reverse battery protection
Over current protection
Over temp. protection

My vv reo batteries are 18350s ?

I've got the Reo Mini 2.1 and a Cyclone bottom feed atty on it. I've got a second Cyclone on the way and plan on ordering a Reo Grand and RM2 soon. No VV in my future, I've got 4 VV devices now that I don't use and two of them are bottom feeders. I prefer mechanical and also the button position on the VVG wouldn't be as pocket friendly for me. I also don't have to worry about keeping batts paired for stacking and all that. With RBAs you really don't need VV.

with all my genesis devices I do prefer mechanical because of the low resistances I run in them. but from what I have read about these rebuildable drippers a medium resistance is preferred especially in those micro coils. im pretty sure eventually I will get a couple of reo's but for now just one. so my worry is that I will do a micro coil to around 1.6 to 2.0 and not have enough power to run it on the mechanical mod. im just so used to making a coil under 1-ohm and using a mechanical. for me being so use to 15 watts and up, i find it hard to believe that a mechanical mod would suffice on a coil above 1.5Ω. i kind of think the same as you about vv devices, and that imo their not needed, but that's because of my low resistant coils, but if someone preferred coils that are considered high resistance then you would need a vv device unless you stacked batterys. if one didn't want to stack, then imo a vv device is needed, unless you don't mind really low wattages.

There is no lowest resistance setting - just that very low becomes rather harsh especially if you ramp the power up.

im pretty sure it is pretty close to the cut-offs in many vv devices, about 1.2ish, and to run resistances under this really requires a thicker gauge wire, if not, and you did use a thinner gauge wire with the lower ohms, then like you said it would be harsh, that's because of the wires temperature. high resistance wire is for higher resistances and lower resistance wire is for lower resistances for the most part

I'd get the mech first. If the micro coil in 1.5-2.0 doesn't do it for you you can make them lower resistance. But I think you'll be surprised at the results. My 1.7 is a lot of wraps of 29g, I doubt a few less would hurt anything

that's what im thinking as well. from what it seems, the micro coil hits hard. maybe a 1.5ish micro at 3.7v may feel like my sub-1 in my mech genny.

I got my Grande a week ago and haven't used my vv/vw for anything but a battery/ohm checker since! I tried micro coils, but just didn't work for me so i went back to slr. I built 1 A7 atty at 1ohm and another at .7ohms so when the batt gets to about 3.9v I switch atties till about 3.6ish. (And yes, I'm always careful with my coils and checking my batteries.) Not many other bottom feeders can handle slr like a Reo, so that's what sold me, and I couldn't be happier with my choice!

currently i have only 1 vv device and 3 mechanicals that run my gennys, so i am definatly partial to mechanicals. good point on the micro's, if for some reason i don't prefer them or they just don't work out, at least i can go back to what im used to, which is lower resistances. i do believe i will purchase a mechanical reo grand. how often do the wood reo's come around?

Vapediver, all I run are 2 ish ohm micro coils in both my Grand and VV Grand. The batteries last thru 3 ml no matter what resistance I run though.

I will sometimes wind up with a micro wrap that winds up around 1.8 or 2.2 also and they vape wonderfully.

The micro coil takes alot of the information most RBAers preach as bible and throws it in the trash. There's alot of info on ECF that's thought to be fact when, in fact, it's folklore. :). Either a grand or VVgrand (or mini 2.1 for that matter) will be more than adequate for your needs unless you are some kind of one-off freak :)

Yes they hit much harder in real life than on paper. I wrap a little bigger than 1/16" so I can fit the xc132 in it. The screwdriver I wrap them on is 5/64". I like the cotton too but I go through quite a bit of Boba's and it clogs it pretty quick. At work its easier for me to do a dry burn than replace the wick, that's why I go with the Nextel.
