At the shore...
This IS it!!! It's so exciting. I've been putting off a LOT of stuff using the excuse that I'm so busy with work and all. Now there's no excuse! The first order of business is a deep-cleaning of my house. It is so easy to let it get out of control....I do a lot of surface picking up and stashing, but I really want to clean the closets and bookshelves and cabinets, ya know? I think I have cleaning solutions, bug sprays, car waxes, etc. under my kitchen sink that have been there for 20 years!!! How does that happen? My daughter moved out twelve YEARS ago and a lot of her stuff is still in the closet of what is now the "spare" room. Sometimes I wish I could just move out and start over....

After that, who knows......

I don't really think it has actually sunk in yet.

EDIT: I'd buy myself a new REO Grand to celebrate if I could figure out what color I wanted.....and if I even needed one! (I don't.)

How about one of Rob's snazzy new Green Grands? Both would look great with your fancy decals.

There's something very freeing about PURGING yourself of stuff. I try to do it twice a year. If you haven't used it, worn it, looked at it, or thought about it in a year, PURGE.

How about doing some traveling? Any interest?

hahaha! invest in some cones :) or get a roll of the crime scene yellow tape and tape it accross your driveway. They'll stay away

I just can't bring myself to do the crime scene tape thing -- lol.

OMG -- these tourists are sooooooooo horrible. Parents will change baby diapers in the back of their SUVs then THROW the dirty diaper on our lawns. I've found empty booze bottles in my scrubs, dirty underwear........and other things. I've come home to find people sitting ON MY PORCH. OMG. I relish the end of the summer.

Saturday.....BBQ, Sunday......BBQ, Monday.......BBQ......Mrs Underdawg has a VERY large family that likes to......well......BBQ!

All the while I'll be dreaming of my future REO, it's within sight!

debzcf, gotta love them tourists huh? Sad thing is though I like going to the beach, although I respect other folks property and I won't go into some random neighborhood to park. But I do feel your pain as I live in a very touristy area. Nothing like driving down a country road and hitting a major traffic jam. The reason for the jam?? The fine folks who live in the next state over eyeballing in utter amazement over a HORSE AND BUGGY!!!! Gotta love it.....or not!

I hear ya...you must have the very same challenges in Lancaster. I promise, when I'm in your neck of the woods, I'm not holding up traffic. Here's a funny -- when a kid, I used to live in Maine. Come Fall, people from surrounding states would drive up Rural Route 1 to look at the leaves changing color (we'd refer to these PITA tourists as "leaf peepers"). Traffic would be backed up for HOURS. You mean to tell me they didn't have trees and leaves in their own backyard? hahahaha

I love Maine! Had some family live along the coast and two uncles buried in the military cemetery in Augusta. I haven't been up that way since 2000, very beautiful country! So which beach do you live on? I hope not one that has a tramcar on the boardwalk that screams WATCH THE TRAMCAR PLEASE!!!!
Creeping the buggies is the least worst thing. They come right into my work, blocking the garage asking where they can find the A-mish......really?!?! Even had some wondering where they can see Lebanon Levi! And lets not get started on the picture taking and random stalking!!

I'm cracking up. Find the A-mish? haahahahahahahahahaha.

I lived in Camden, ME -- parents had a Bed and Breakfast on the Camden Harbor. I currently live in Spring Lake, NJ.

What I'm doing this weekend is figuring out what to do with the rest of my life starting NOW!!! Today was my last official day at work. Most people took off today to have a 4-day weekend, but I was there with a few other people. Someone said it was a shame we hadn't taken a vacation day in order to have the 4-day weekend, and it dawned on me.....a 4-day weekend is not so "all that" if I can have 7-day weekends the rest of my life!!! Yay for retirement!!!
Congrats Jan that is awesome retirement I cant wait . There are so many things I want to do . I am going to be a busy old man . Yippy alarm clock in the trash .

I know! Have really been looking at those....both of them. Also have been thinking about a Copper vein...I don't have any of the new metallic colors (black wrinkle, hammer tone, silver vein, copper vein...)

There's something very freeing about PURGING yourself of stuff. I try to do it twice a year. If you haven't used it, worn it, looked at it, or thought about it in a year, PURGE.

You're right. I just "purged" my office and my classroom after 23 years of STUFF accumulating....and it has been very liberating. It's funny why I thought I needed to keep all that stuff year after year. I found a box of 3-1/2 inch computer disks....never used. I took them to the office and the workstudy told me the new computers don't have disk drives in them. In the trash. I had a file cabinet full of "handouts" for a class that I haven't taught in 10 years. Amazing.

Sure interest. The kind of traveling I like to do is to just get in a car and drive. When I get tired, stop wherever I am, spend a little time, then go again. I like back roads. Would love to drive as much of Route 66 as I could (It runs right through Tulsa, OK where I live....I'd start there and head west.)

I also have hobbies I'd like to have time to play with. I like sewing....quilting.... Also I just boiled down a bunch of blackberries and have enough juice for 3 or 4 batches of blackberry jelly that I want to make. I'm sure I'll find my groove, but right now it's too new and I just don't even know where to start. :)

Rockland, Rockport, Camden...all neighbors. Beautiful area but darn, it gets COLD up there. Rob, our REO leader, lives in ME. :)

Have you been to Spring Lake? Monmouth County. You're not that far from me.

We're about an hour or so west of Philly depending on how ya drive, 3 to 5 hours when you add in the tourists and rush hour traffic! Yeah I absolutely hate the cold! Never been that far up the Jersey coast, mostly South Jersey and down into Delaware and Va Beach. I hope Sandy didn't mess you guys up too bad!

It's all so exciting. Hey...the world is your oyster. I'd start with a simple list -- top 3 things you'd like to do. Then go from there. Not a bad problem to have, right?!

 Funny you should say that! Actually, I use the alarm feature on my i-Phone, and this morning after it woke me up, I went through the app and turned every one of them off. Permanently. (I had different times set for M-W-F classes and T-Th classes.)

It hasn't quite dawned on me that I'm FREE.....but it will. It feels strange.....like maybe I'm on a little vacation. I don't think I've quite realized that it's real yet.

If and when I retire, I'm driving the Lincoln Highway straight from Jersey to Oregon and then down the Pac Coast highway. Yes I love to drive, when I reach my geriatric years they're gonna have to pry my cold dead hands off of the steering wheel!

The original US 66 is definitely on my bucket list JC Okie!
