Hi people, now i know that most of us are just guys who like to take stuff apart and figure them out in our spare time (something i don't have too much of). I've been reading other members posts about USB passthroughs going bad etc and had an idea.

What about if we had a sticky/thread listing anyone who would be willing to try repairing, making mods for people. Most of us don't do it for profit, more for fun. We'd all learn more from being able to get our hands on more stufff. If the users stuff is dead anyway what do they have to lose, just the cost of mailing. For a small cost they could get something back that is better built than the original item.

Anyone interested, any thoughts??

UkUsa, I think it's an excellent idea too. I couldn't count the number of times I've seen people post that they would love to have a particular mod but don't have either the skills or appropriate tools to do it themselves. Me included. :D

So a thread/list devoted to connecting up those who want mods or repairs and those who are willing to provide them for others would be great!

I would definitely be interested in this, I already have a few modifications in mind that I want done. I was going to do them myself, but it would take me another month or two of playing around with dead parts until I'm confident enough to start modifying working parts. And even then I probably wouldn't be that good at it, so I'd be better of asking someone else to do it. I think that you and others should definitely charge though. If you do it for free then you're going to have a line of people wanting mods a mile long, and for each person you'll be paying 2 or 3 dollars ot of your own pocket for return postage, so I think that modders on this list should charge at least $3.

I can only speak for myself, but I believe the reason you're probably not getting more buy-in from Modders is that we do this for fun.

If we were to start doing it for "pay" so to speak, the fun would be gone.

I'm constantly fiddling with my mods, trying to find ways to improve them, and this takes A LOT of time. For instance, I can throw together a magnum mod in about an hour, a USB passthrough in about 15 minutes, but I spend HOURS trying to find the best way to position the LED, or the switch, or on methods of "fixating" the insides and trying out different connectors/and bodys to find the perfect ergonomic device. I also destroy a good amount of parts in my discoveries which can be expensive. And if I burn myself, or blow black junk in my eye, or set my hair on fire because of it, then noone is hurt but myself.

We're playing with high-temp, electrically driven devices which can potentially be dangerous, and I wouldn't want someone to be hurt by something I built.

Just my 2 cents.

Ripley you are probably right.

Most times when you turn a hobby into a money making venture it does become more like work and less fun.

My main intent wasn't to make money but to maybe help out the less technically minded. I was thinking charge for any materials/parts and return postage. Nothing would be done without the understanding that this is not a commercial venture and there are no guarantees.

I understand people not being too willing to offer up their services. I know i don't have that much time spare to mess with even more projects.

The only reason i started this thread was because I have seen some modders make offers to do things for people so figured we could maybe get anyone interested into one place.

I would really like to see a forum offered to help those of us that are not as electronically savvy as others. I'm good with a soldering iron (modding video game systems) however I don't know much about electronic currents. I would love for someone to build me a magnum battery or a battery box. Something with some power behind it cause these puny batteries that come standard don't put out enough vapor for me, and I blow through them fast. Typically 3-4 hours is all i get out of a battery before having to recharge. I am constantly vaping, and would like something that can keep up with me!

Can anyone help me out here???

I have made a mod for a forum member, and have orders for 2 more. No USB passthrough stuff, just battery powered portable stuff like you may have seen me post in the Modders forum. I was thinking about posting an ad in the classifieds, offering some for sale. What I need is a good source of dead (or really cheap) batteries to make these things, otherwise I have to charge people more because I have to sacrifice one of my own batteries, or order some special just to destroy, which I have been doing. I can whip up a good battery box mod in no time. If I find a good source of parts, I'm putting a "for sale" ad up. I've tried the "alternative" connectors, but they just don't seem as secure to me as the real thing. I want the real thing if I'm gonna sell.

HINT HINT! I will PAY for dead batteries. $2 for a DSE901/RN4075 $3 for a M401/402/403/Intellicig EVO.

My issue is the reliability factor. If someone paid me for a mod and it malfunctioned for some reason, i'd feel terrible and would want to help fix it. At home, it's a simple matter of pulling out my multimeter and in a few minutes I can diagnose and fix the issue. I would be much more inclined to supply mods locally since I could help folks out if necessary.

count me in ,some people here have been turning out some fantastic looking mods

ive also requested for a sticky thread in the modders forum reserved for just pics of mods with a write up by the creator about them while having the normal threads below for more chat about them
so you could post your mod pics in the "gallery"
then post a thread with the pics as well for discussion/comments about it
that way people can see a whole range of different mods really quickly grouped in one thread at the top, as posts get older and fall down the list some mods get relegated to the back pages and dont get veiwed as much

i seem to be spending a lot of time making various request stuff for people lately mostly battery packs although i have done a few weird ones , knocked back some too !
i have a whole bench in the shed thats slowly turning into an ecig parts devoted area ,ive made a few weird looking devices but finding time to experiment can be a pain sometimes
