Here is a place with 5mm Neodymium Ring magnets: Ring Magnet: Rare Earth Neodymium Ring Magnets for Sale, $0.12+

They have thin ones (5mm x 2.5mm x 1mm thick) and regular thickness ones (5mm x 2.5mm x 2.5mm thick). These are N42 magnets which is a stronger magnet than N38's, plus with a smaller internal id, these shouldn't be like hair triggers IMO.

The center hole is too small on the 1mm thickness. Hoping to find some to fit the low profile button/switch I ordered some. I might ream out the center hole just to see how they will work. Can't say about the thicker ones

I could take a electric sander to my thicker magnets to make them thin enough to fit 3 in the button right? That would be great if it worked.

Rare earth magnets don't take to modding very well so be careful. I modded a 2 magnet set for the low profile but it was a big PITA. You'll have magnetic dust flying around and they can shatter and the pieces fly everywhere. You can do it, but take precautions not to breathe the dust or get hit in the eye if they come apart on you.

Yeah I will try next weekend when I'm not working. I'll be careful and try not to shatter them. Maybe when I'm watching TV I'll sit with some sand paper and just sand it down every night for a week and see what my results are lol.
