i have been looking into e cigs cause its something that i've been wanting to try for a while ever since i've seen the blu commercial on tv some time ago. i have only been smoking for about 5 years but for the past 2 i have been smoking the camel crush. i have been reading alot of great information on this forum for the past 2 days now and im so confused on what brand of e cig to buy and i have a few questions about them so if i can get some more good advice from you kind people i appreciate it alot.

first off , how long does the battery actually last ? will it last through out my 8 hour work shift should i carry an extra battery on me?

how many cigarettes does a cartridge amount to? i've seen some things on google saying a cartridge could be a pack and then others say cartridge could be between 2 and 5 cigarettes i smoke about a pack a day sometimes i may break into another pack it all just depends on how my night is going at work.

and lastly brands , i have seen a million and a half diffirent brands on here and i know nothing about none of them i have been getting all of my info on here but i did notice one brand that stuck out and thats just cause i seen it at the gas station down the street from my house , " cigalectric " . they sell the disposable ones and i was thinking about just getting one of those to start out with to see if i even like it cause if it doesnt give me the hit in my throat when i inhale i dont know if i can switch from traditional to e cig. anyways i really appreciate everybodies input and feedback thanks alot.

I have only Smoke Stiks. The mimick a cigarette, and made the transition from smoking a breeze. I don't know about buying one from a vendor. I have not heard good things on this site about mall vendors, but I have never seen one for sale.
Smoke Stiks is a great product and I am very pleased with the customer service.

Good luck!

If battery life is important to you in a starter ecig then look at the Ego or Riva. These are a little bit wider (more cigar shaped) but they will last you much longer in between charges than the mini type that resemble the size of a cig. With my Riva I was getting 2 days on a charge but that's on the long side. Most report 6-8 hours or more in comparison to 1-2 hours on the smaller mini styles.

You'll get alot of claims on how many analogs a cart equals. My advice is don't believe any of them and they are easy to refil when the flavor starts going. If you have to have a number my best estimate would be 3 - 4 cigarettes. Cartomizers are also available and hold alot more liquid so you don't have to refill as often.

with a cigarette size e-cig, you will need several batteries to make it through an 8 hour shift

how many cigarettes does a cartridge amount to? i've seen some things on google saying a cartridge could be a pack and then others say cartridge could be between 2 and 5 cigarettes i smoke about a pack a day sometimes i may break into another pack it all just depends on how my night is going at work.

it really depends on how you use it. There is no real equivalence between cartridges and cigarettes. Your use of an e-cig will most definitely be different than your use of analogs. Mileage varies from person to person

if you're looking for a standard cigarette size electronic cigarette, i recommend the 510. It worked to get me off of analogs.

If you don't mind extra size, check out the ego or riva. One battery should last you 6-8 hours with those, as opposed to 2-3 on a standard cigarette sized model. However, your mileage may vary.

Rule of Thumb: the more it looks like the real thing, the worse the performance. And on the "will it last an 8 hour shift", that depends on the model you have and whether you vape constantly or say just once an hour or so. The cig looking ones will only last maybe an hour or a little more. The better battery ones, depending again on the model, will last 4-10 hours before needing a recharged battery. Definitely stay clear of auto batteries and get manual (small button) batteries. The manuals simulate the "inhaled" feel of an analog much better than the auto batteries. They also hold up better.

If you feel that it must look like an analog, then get a regular 510 model but make sure you have plenty of extra batteries because they don't hold a charge very long. A better battery model that still is relatively small (cigar size) is the Riva or eGo 510. Or if you want to jump right in to the better models, look at a good 5 volt PV such as the GLV2 or a variable volt PV.

I would also stay clear of prefilled carts as they tend to not taste good and cost much more that buying your own e-liquid and blank carts. I would also suggest starting with 24mg nic strength to make the transition. And over time, I would suggest experimenting with different atomizer sizes. You may find you like other sized attys, such as the 801, better than the 510. And then there is the cartomizer option but I've typed enough.

Good Luck

I did not get rid of my analogs til after about 3 days and gave an unopend pack away Sunday. Smoking for over 25 years a pack to a pack and a half a day. Sometimes more or less pending on if I was outside all day. I did not smoke in my house. I bought a starter kit from the head shop in the mall and paid ALOT more than ordering on line, but like you I was not sold. I would have returned it if I did not like it. Or tried to. The kit was like a real cig just a bit longer. I won't get into the pros and cons but have upgraded to the eGO Mega so I could have a longer battery and better filter/cartridge style. This is all within the last 30 days. Actually bought at mall Nov 20th. Just received my eGO Joye Mega yesterday. Still testing evaluating this one. Bigger battery. If you get a starter kit get a PCC so you can charge at work. Look at the vids here and youtube and other sites like vaping guides.com. Tons of info here and there. I can't tell ya how glad I am to have found this and made the change. Start small or conservitive and you can always upgrade or change to a diffrent type like I did. I will have a payback from reg cigs in a week or so. Hope this helps. You have a question the search is a good feature as well.

There are so many wonderful sales now on starter kits...but definitely if you are don't like recharging batteries, switching them, remembering which one is fully charged--then go with the cigar-sized ones (ie ego, riva).

Those will last you a lot longer and keep the frustration down.

I personally don't hold my PV like a cigarette, so I don't mind the cigar-sized ones...

When your new looking for a electronic cigarette you want something that will last threw the day with the least amount of hassles like constant battery changes. Below I have listed some of the current electronic cigarettes that I have and how long the battery's last hope this will help you decide what would fit your needs. These comparisons are off my usage of being a 2 pack a day smoker this will be different for others that smoke more or less.

801 pen style – 801 pen style e-cig looks like a pen has a 280MaH manual or automatic battery with 801 atomizer. Battery last 2-3 hours before needing recharged

510 – the 510 is a smaller unit that is about the same size as a cigarette has a 180MaH manual, automatic battery uses 510 atomizer battery last 1.5–2 hours before needing recharged

M401 – M401 200MaH automatic battery with 401 atomizers. Battery last 1.5–2 hours before needing recharged

Riva – Riva looks like the EGO has rubber button that light up when pushed has a manual 750MaH battery comes in two styles 510 and 901 atomizers. Battery last 6–8 hours before needing recharged

VGO-900 – VGO-900 has a larger battery with a Diamond jewel button nice paint job and has a manual 900MaH battery uses 510 atomizer. Battery last 8–10 hours before needing recharged

DSE905 – 905 is a battery mod that takes one 14500 900MaH AA battery when button is pushed has blue ring that lights up at bottom of the atomizer uses a 510 atomizer. Battery will last 8-10 hours before needing recharged.

I agree with all of the above. You really should watch MistressNomad's videos.

If you want something the size of an analog, go with the 510 or KR808 (like in the vids), extra batteries and probably a charging case. Manual batteries.

If the size isn't a deal breaker for you, go for the eGo or similar. That's what I did and haven't looked back. I carry one fully charged eGo and a small bottle of juice and I'm good to go.

I wouldn't recommend going straight to a mod. They can be quite pricey and you probably want to start with one of the above mentioned models to get a good feel for what you like first.

You probably will want some spare parts too - a couple extra atomizers or cartomizers and some samplers of juice. If I were you, I'd get a couple or a few different strengths between 12 and 24 mg. For reference, I smoked a pack a day of Camel menthol silver and got 18 mg and 12 mg. Also try some PG as well as some VG and don't be afraid of the fruit / soda / etc flavors. Buy small bottles of different stuff to try it all out.

Lastly, keep reading this forum!

Best of luck!
