Our balcony, where my wife and I used to smoke, still smells like a**. The window has been open since day one, we've cleaned every reachable surface and replaced every fabric in the place and it still reeks. Is there something that will knock the stink out forever? All that's out there is paint and tiles now and if we scrub the paint too hard it'll come off. Freebreeze isn't working either (well S. Korea's version of the product "free-ba-ree-jah"). It masks the scent just like any other perfuming agent but once it's gone the stale cigarette air remains.

I have basalmic, will that work? LOL. I'll have to go buy some white vinegar tonight. Thanks Sun.

The vinegar will work, but you need to give it some time; We had to clean out my grandmothers house, and we didn't think ANYTHING would work. She smoked 4 packs a day for 40 years. You could have smoked the wallpaper and got a nic high. The vinegar worked after a few weeks. I don't think it will take you that long, but don't expect it to work in a few minutes. :)

My old car reeked! I used towels soaked in the white vinegar under the seats and also separate shallow containers of baking soda to help absorb the odor. I just put them under the seat and left them. Rewetting the vinegar towels once a day when I got home. The car smelled like salad for awhile but it worked. We only got a faint stale cig smell when the car was closed up in the heat then we sold it.

I do not know about the Balsamic for a vinegar as I have never tried it---only the white distilled---and yes it takes some time, but boy does it work. So for a few bucks your problem will be gone. Just let the cups sit around and it will be gone. Realtors use this trick all the time also from what I understand when the get a home to sell where there was smoking---so that will take care of it for you.

Thanks for all the great advise. I think I have enough Ideas here that something is bound to work, especially if I try them all LOL.

As for the balcony, it's a poured concrete enclosure with a vista sliding glass double paned window. We leave the window open 24/7. Here's a picture:

The chairs, table, and rug have all been removed since this picture (rug was tossed. yucky!)

You can see it's not big at all and we smoked in there 100% of the time before our e-cigs came so it was bound to retain some smell. I just didn't realize how strong and for how long.

Yes I sure does take time, but it sure does work! In the mean time I burn Glade candles. They seem to really work great. I live in a rather small 2 bdrm apt and one candle burning in the living room makes the whole place smell good.:D Oh, by the way I have 4 cats also!:)

Neither here nor there
There's a product called Nok-Out that is awesome. I had to order online, but it worked greatso it was worth it. I always got a stinky cig odor from the AC in my car. I sprayed the Nok-Out into the intake vent at the bottome of my windshield while the AC was on full blast and the windows were up. I repeated the spraying a couple of times over the next 10 minutes, and the smell was gone forever.

The cig smell is probably in the concrete on your balcony. I'd get some Nok-Out and spray it down well. I bet that would work for you.

You might check out renting an 'ozone machine'. (it would work inside but not so much on an open air balcony)

Do a bit of research first and though some will say it's ok to run it on 'high' - it might be best to not be home if you do.
6-8 hrs - a couple times should be sufficient to make a noticeable improvement.

I'm sure there must be a rental place somewhere that carries them.

(I'm not a big bleach, ammonia or air freshener product fan)

Good Luck!

When we have issues with the lavs on our plane, we hang filter bags of coffee in the restroom.

We had a plane that broke down in the middle of no where.... There were no lav service trucks, so we couldnt have the tanks dumped. The plane sat sealed on the ground for three days in the middle of July last summer. You can only imagine the horrifying smell that hit us when we opened the door for the first time. We hung coffee filter bags in the lav and throughout the aircraft, sealed it back up, and within two hours it was more than tolerable!

God just remembering that makes me shudder!

Safe Travels!
