This would probably fit better into the main forum, but since I don't have 15 posts yet, I guess it's OK here.

On the assumption that vaping will become a mainstream practice, I'm fantasizing about a return to the Golden Days of smoking (but without all the nastiness). From the '20s-'60s (roughly); cigarette smoking was ubiquitous throughout all levels of society, often considered sexy/"manly"/etc., at worst a minor vice.

It'll take time, maybe even another generation, but if it was categorically proven that the vaping habit was no more harmful than, say, drinking coffee, and given all of the other positives, I wonder whether social customs, laws and rules will swing back the other way; smoking goes the way of the diplodocus, while vaping catches on like smoking did "back in the day".

That might happen if people suddenly remembered the concept of minding their own business. Not trying to be a downer but that's why things are the way they are now.:(

Let's be honest, even in the first years of this new technology, there is some really sleek and sexy looking kit knocking around...:)

I expect that future vapers will be able to vape something the size of a real cig all day without having to refill or top up anything...the cart will probably hold around 3ml or 4ml of juice and the battery will last for around 20 hours without needing a charge...we can dream, right? :thumb:

I'm so old, I remember those days. You could smoke in the doctor's office, in hospital rooms, restaurants. Ah, the good ole days. Cigarettes were $ .25 per pack.

Yah, that's just about what they were when I started, I seem to remember .35 a pack, couldn't have been more than fifty cents.

Of course, if they were still fifty cents, this revolution might have never come along- they taxed it out of existence. Six bux a pack? A near 200 a month habit? Sheesh. Pretty soon, illegal drugs will be cheaper.

Proponents of legalized marijuana just ain't figured out yet that if the US does legalize it, it would be so heavily taxed, users will never be able to afford it again. The war on drugs would be over. :D

I got that sinkin feeling these are the good old days at the moment "Remember when we could get juice for $.50 a ml?" The minute the scales tip, vapin advances to where it is a total no brainer, societally acceptable, you can vape in public venues and noone complains type of thing... the govt. will embrace it and tax the biznatch out of it.

God... I usually never rant on the government... but woo boy is this one ever lovin comin one day.

I remember cigarettes being 75 cent, gas 40 cents and a coke at shcool was 6 cents. The marlboro man was cool. Because John Wayne smoked nobody thought less of him. I quess that was the reason I smoked marlboro. You could smoke anywhere and everywhere you liked and no body complained at least I didn't know any body that complanied about it. Cigarettes were adverstised everywhere and anywhere.

I don't think we should smoke around other people but because they decided it was bad for you they went crazy with taxes. Tax the sinners. They should also put a heavy tax on alcohol, caffiene, sugar, and fat containing products. Anything that affects our health. People die every day from obesity related illness.

Why in the first place did they start taxing tobacco. Just because people will pay no matter what the price is. Well the ecig has temporarily put a halt on this for a lot of us. If they are approved you bet there will be a heavy tax on these also.

Unfortunately, I can't imagine, like Brewster and steven.rn have said, that vaping will become /more/ accessible -- the main sticking point being the sale of nicotine being so inexpensive and unregulated. A few instances of a trace of a chemical in this or that, even if it's a chemical found in tobacco, even if it's at a level much lower than is found in tobacco, and the FDA will be all over this s***. No more dropper bottles with computer printout labels. :p The homegrown upstart isn't going to be able to operate, overhead costs will go up with regulation and promotion, and the field will have all the diversity squeezed out of it.

:( But I'm a pessimist.

I can't remember that far back, it was a little before my time. When I started smoking I think Camels and such were $2.50-3.00 a pack, if you wanted budget you could get Mainstreets or G-smoke for $0.99 a pack. That was six years ago here, now to drive down to the gas station and pick up a pack of Camel Turkish Gold (my personal favorite, even more before that wretched FSC law passed) is $6.59, if you happen to like Benson and Hedges prepare to hand them $8.33 + tax. I also smoked cloves, they were up to $9.50 a pack before the ban hit here. Absolutely ridiculous.

Even before that though, smokers had more freedom, I remember walking through the mall as a little kid and you could smoke anywhere. You were given freedom to choose smoking or non inside a restaurant. Most restaurants had cigarette machines in them still. No one looked at each other with that "oh god, they're smoking" kind of look.

It came to the point that other than running out of places to freely smoke, it's too expensive to try and keep smoking analogs, so I made the switch to these, wish me luck.

I'll dream along too. In the future, our e-juice will be replaced with a solid or gel that will sublimate directly from solid to vapor (like dry ice) when heat is applied. One stick would be the equivalent of 10 mL and the flavors would never decay since they're locked in the matrix. Then you could easily switch flavors and avoid clogging/flooding the atty. No more filling/topping off/rebuilding carts.

Of course, we would still mod them. :)

Hey, those plug in air fresheners are essentially the same thing. Any chemists in here?
