Ouch. I must be the old lady in this group. I had my 40th college reunion already and 45th high school. I like to go back to the high school one but not the college so much-same people each time. My roomies (there were 8 of us) are still my bestest friends in the whole world. We are still extremely close and try to do a mini reunion for a long weekend once a year. We were in each others weddings, godmothers to the children and support team for the rough times. When we get together we act as if we were 20 again-lots of laughs and a few tears-mostly from the joy we bring each other. We all know how blessed we are. (Oh, and a few are h.s. friends, as well).

Our whole cheerleading squad got kicked off and they brought in the JV because we did a "twirl" and our skirts flaired out (oh, the horror!!!!). We did get reinstated.

We also did the skirt turn up the minute school let out and headed to the girls room to put on our makeup. What hussies. Every Friday our skirts were measured. I often wonder how we made it trough those years and if that is the reason we are half crazed now. :D

I'll try to dig out my h.s. and college pics and get them scanned. In h.s I wore a "pixie" because my hair wouldn't stay in a bubble or beehive or whatever the current style was-probably because I was such a tomboy. In college I had the long flip. Enough about me

SudokuGal--it was so odd to hear you mention Dunkards. We have a fairly large community of them here and I've had to explain the to everyone who visits. "Why are the Amish people using cell phones," is a frequent question. I've lived all over VA and it wasn't until I moved to this area that I ran into them. They do have the best ice cream shop in the area and the best bakery. Gotta love country ham biscuits!

They are excellent cooks. One of my high school friends was from a Dunkard family. Her mom made the VERY BEST angel food cake...super tall and super light. My sister-in-law had one delivered almost every week.

Yes, the Dunkards are a bit more progressive than the Amish...I'm not sure how they decide what of the modern world is OK and what's not. They are super nice folks though...and don't seem to be hypocritical in any way. I always felt welcome in their homes even though I was an ''outsider."

This is the only pic I can find from '69. My mom had a flip, so did some of the older girls - but my friends and I were doing the long haired thing.

A year later the boys' hair was almost as long as ours!

My sister was about the same age in "69 and she had long hair too! Must have been the rage!:D
Very cute BTW!
TY : ) Yep, it was the rage! Along with bellbottom hiphuggers and wearing pants or even bluejeans to school instead of skirts.

I think even a couple of years made a difference in what influenced us during those crazy times... things were changing soooo quickly.

Interesting timing you had with posting your cute HS picture. With the 40th anniversary of Woodstock there've been a couple of documentaries on TV about the late 60s & early 70s. History sees '69 as a pivotal year in a lot of respects. I was too young to really grasp it in '69 - kids were nowhere near as exposed to the world at that age as they are now - but just a couple of years later nothing seemed to be what I was brought up to expect. Civil rights, womens rights, sexual freedom, Viet Nam... so much that would change the future happened at the same time.
