Hello,

I have this 100% mechanical mod (Bullet mod by Jet Creations). When I place the 18650 positive side up, I get a long switch throw. So I inserted it nipple top down. The nipple gets inside the bottom switch assembly a bit thus shortening the throw.

I've heard somewhere that, if a hard short where to happen, it would be worse than if it is positive side up. But I'm not sure if it's true and to be honest, can't find any logical explanation as to why it would be worse. Current flow outside the battery is simply reversed right? But I'm no electrical guru or anything. :)

Is it safe (assuming mod and battery form factors allow for it) electricity wise?

Thanks

Denis

The danger is that the battery label wears through, then the battery can (the metal can that contains the battery) which is negative will short out to the APV body which is now positive as the circuit has been reversed by inserting the battery 'wrong way round', and the device body is now 'live' (positive) instead of 'earth' (negative). Normally the APV body is negative, so a battery shorting out may not have serious consequences (it may bypass the hot-spring fuse). When the body is live, you will get an instant 30 or 40 amp DC arc weld followed by battery meltdown. Makes a nice handwarmer on a cold winter day.
