Rewicking Protank heads

What's the best way to disassemble the head to avoid damage to the coil? Do you replace the flavor wick?

When I rebuild one, I use cotton for the main wick and the flavor wicks. I have only managed to remove the original wick from a coil without damaging it one time. That time, I dry burned it clean before tring to pull the wick out. If the coil and wick are gunked up and you try to pull the wick out, you will have a good chance at trashing the coil.

I just can't seem to get the coil ends back in the right place when reassembling. I imagine it would be pretty easy if you made your own coil and left them longer, but I'd like to use the existing coil.

You can't really put that coil back into it's metal housing-unit, if you pulled it out of there. Unless you un-wrap 1 or 2 of the wraps to make the legs slightly longer, it would be pretty much impossible. I've tried, lol. Sorry bud

Dry burn well. Then before you rinse, very gently ease the wick out. Use tweezers. Don't try to get the whole wick in one shot. Do it in strands.

You have to do it without taking the bottom part off, just take that chimney part off, then do as Mrs C says. I have yet to find a way to get silica wick back into the coil but I can do it with cotton ball cotton. Then it wasn't the best. I find it easier to rebuild the whole coil. It actually takes me less time to rebuild than to carefully take out the wick and carefully put in the cotton.

I rebuild using a 4-40 screw to wrap my coil and cotton yarn as my wick then when I need to change the wick I can pull out the wick, dry burn the coil and run a new wick through.

Yes YOU CAN rewick a stock coil if you want better performance than that stock crap silica wick.

The best way to do it is like mrs c and susan mentioned...
But I might add that you'll get the best results if you rewick a brand new unused head.

The silica will be easier to remove a few strands at a time and you'll have a fresh stock coil to wick in cotton. I suggest using the cotton yarn "lily sugar n cream 4 ply" yarn. use three of the four strands i moisten an end and twist it between your fingers into a skinny tight point to thread thru the coil... get it through and keeping it twisted...twist the rest a little so its slim too and pull it through being careful not to disrupt the coil...then cut it off flush to the outer flange ring. being sure to moisten the wick and letting it sit a while to soak up some juice before you vape it.

Pretty soon though you'll find yourself making your own micro coils and loving the results
