Hi guys :) Enjoying a quiet Saturday at home - just me and the dogs. The air is cool outside for the first time this year - it's so peaceful.

What better time to experiment with new builds?

So I ordered some ribbon Kanthal and it arrived right as I was leaving work yesterday. It's 0.9 X 0.1. Pretty excited about playing with this - I haven't tried ribbon yet.

Any advice/pics for amazing ribbon coils?

I've seen a few on YouTube and here on ECF but I figure you guys will provide the most outstanding examples of stellar ribbon sculpture.

Notes: I wick with cotton and enjoy sub-ohming, but I'm not averse to wrapping coils for the Provari and vaping between 1.3 and 1.8 either. Right now I'm building on a Trident, but I also have a DID genny and various types of wick materials, so all types of suggestions are welcome.

I have made some nice 3/4 wrap coils with the .9 ribbon using 2mm ekowool. They meter around .8/.9, and fire like a dream, really quickly. I wrapped directly on the ekowool, evenly spaced, with the tails hitting the edge of the deck.
I suppose you could wrap on a drill bit and feed cotton for a similar effect, but the ekowool is nice because you just won't burn it up.
Make sure you get your angle right, keeping airflow in mind.
Happy vaping!

I found the round Kanthal to work better for my preference of building and mounting the coil then inserting wick. The ribbon was too flimsy and didn't hold it's shape as well.

I did have some thin ribbon though and I don't remember what it was cause I gave it to someone.

Keep us posted on your results :)

Here's a 4/5 on my DID with a ceramic wick. 1 ohm.

The trouble I had relates more to the rigid ceramic than the ribbon... if I tighten it too much to get good contact on all surfaces, as well as smooth finish at the base (you'll notice one leg is unsightly and the coils themselves appear too loose), it breaks the wick. Stuff is extremely delicate.. a definite downside. The vape is nice though, especially after day 2.

Not noticing any improvement in terms of flavor or vapor production between the ribbon Kanthal and plain round Kanthal. but it's possible that with how loose this one is, I'm not seeing the real value of the ribbon.

Back to the drawing board.

Maybe try the "tin-man" build. I'm on my phone or I'd look for a link. [edit] found it: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-t5wdJsWTkk&desktop_uri=/watch?v=-t5wdJsWTkk
Basically, you overlap the ribbon on itself, negating spaces. Like a contact ribbon coil, but it uses the previous wrap to keep consistency. I'm sure you torched the ribbon before building, that helps with the springiness.

Yay! Thanks - this is exactly the kind of info I was hoping for. Will try this tonight :) (Yes - of course - torched it.. but it's still very springy... takes some getting used to.)

Try twisting it. There is some links on the dragon coil thread in here towards the end. Taking two strands of ribbon wire and twisting it.
Have you done this yet? I know the Mundy twist is three wires... with a second twist after the initial twist... also using a difference gauge ribbon than I have.

I thought from what I read that 2 don't work that well... can you share your experience? What gauge ribbon did you use, and what were your results in terms of resistance/vapor/flavor?
