RIP, Mary Traverse of Peter, Paul & Mary

For those of you too young to recognize the name, you'll probably be more familiar with one of their songs: Puff the Magic Dragon.

Mary died today, at the age of 72, from leukemia.

Sad day. I've annoyed people with "This is the song that never ends..." countless times.

"Where have all the flowers gone" was another good one as well as "Puff" who we all know and love

"The marvelous toy" was questionable... catchy hook but the lyrics make you say "Hrmmmmmm"

Mary's dead, Henry's Dead, he died the other day. All the people I grew up laughing with or listening too are dying or dead. Old age must be my problem. I feel like Marvin from "The Hitchhiker's Guide"! What's the point? I feel my planned obsolescence creeping up on me.

Yeah, it gets a little weird as we get older and our idols/icons start dropping off. Does make us face our own mortality head on.

Oh, I also should correct her last name...it's Travers...I was up too early this morning!

Rest in Peace Mary! I have many memories of listening to PP&M music growing up. How I grew up as a hippy in a family with no hippy types is still a mystery to me, but I spent many hours driving in the car as a teen and young adult singing along to their music.

Leaving on a Jet Plane was my favorite. Penned by John Denver. They were around a very long time..long after Folk music was passe'. I loved their harmony and it seemed they did too as they were lifelong friends.
