DANG!!! I can't believe I killed my passthrough battery.

Now I am down to one battery....EEEEEKKKK. I ordered a few more but I am so anxious that this one is going to die any minute and then what?!? I have to wait an hour or so for it to charge??? OH the lessons I learn!!

Lesson: Keep more than I backup battery AT ALL TIMES!!!

@Jodi ... When you get a new battery, I'd suggest a PassThru (3.7 volts = with battery, 5 volts = no battery + wall wart). Then, you always have a plug-in solution.

A passthrou is a perfect backup. You should always have 2. One in use...and one as a backup.

Just ordered a 5v passthru from madvapes. I don't want to feel this way EVER again.

I'm not AttyPops but I think he means an ac to usb plug. You'll need a 2 amp model for a 5v straight Pt. If you do get a PT, I recommend spending quite a bit of money for a good one. I bought one at around 17 dollars and the button went out on it within a month. My vendor replaced it, but now the new one has a loose connection after about three months of use. It's been well cared for.

In fact, I don't even recommend a PT anymore because of too many reports of early failure. Why not just get an e-power or a box mod. Then you're not teethered to anything and your yearly expense isn't that great.

A wall wart is an AC/DC adapter. For a PT, it should be rated at least 1A (1000mA), and 2A is better.

Don't try to use a PT on a computer's USB port unless it has an inline battery -- you might fry the motherboard.

I hate to say this, but I think you deserve the warning: I've never had only one thing fail at a time. If a battery goes, a PT is next. If an XL dies, a standard will give up the ghost shortly afterwards, etc.

Here is what I was doing and what I was using so that everyone will not do as I did. I had a passthrough with a battery from Totally Wicked. I decided that I was going to use the battery as a battery as well as a passthrough, bad idea. I was charging the battery overnight and then when it would die I would plug it in to my pc (will not do that anymore, thanks @FantWriter for the warning) and use it as a passthrough and then charge it at night again. Same thing every day, every night.

@JD1 I have a Monkeyboxx ordered so I am getting to graduate to the mod world! NOw I just have to wait. But I always want to have a backup system!!

If it's one with an inline battery, the battery will eventually die, just like every other LiIon batt.

If you're dripping, juice can get inside and short it out. (This is often used as an attack against auto batts, but it can happen to manual batts, too, because seals are not perfect.)

I've never seen a model with a proper strain relief on the cord, so the wires can be pulled out/break after extended use.

I take reasonable care with mine (not overly fussy, but I don't swing them around like a toy), and I've had two die.

lol. Guess I caused confusion (my bad). What I was thinking was to use a PT that is either

A) a direct PT (but that's 5 volts and requires, for example, 3.0 ohm atties. ). No battery required. Yes, the "wall wart" is a plug-in AC adapter with USB (2.0 amps or better). They grow out of your AC wall plugs (wall wart!)

B) the 3.7 volt PTs, similar to what you are using now with a replaceable battery. I hate having to throw out a whole eGo battery when I know I could just pop in a rechargeable li ion battery for $5.00. OTOH, if you love the eGo style stuff, go ahead and just get another eGo PT or whatever it is.

The comments above are good, though. If people say they don't last..... IDK. Maybe was bad advice on my part. I use a direct 5v pt (homemade) and it lasts forever and is always a backup.

@jodi Just out of curiosity.... How long did the PT battery last? What type of PT was it (in line sit-and-go, eGo PT, etc?)

Oh, and since you went and purchased a 5 volt PT, you'll need 3.0 ohm atties if you are using lower-ohm stuff now. 3.0 ohm is "standard" atty ohms. LR, or even 2.5 may be a bit low for 5 volt.

AND.... since you purchased a 5 volt'er, did you get the wall wart too?

Suggested DON'Ts:
1) leak a ton of juice out the atty
2) drip on the button
3) pull a lot on cord... particularly where it connects to the e-cig body. I have heard that some people put electrical tape on the end... IDK.

And just how did you "misuse" it? See what their warranty is.... that kind of stuff ticks me off when it doesn't last at least 6 months for a PT with an eGo sized battery. A little cig-sized 510 battery I understand, since it is charged so often, but an eGo sized PT.........

Now, if you were dropping it in puddles, whacking the cat with it (jk), using it to prop open the garage door... ok. But if you are just vaping with it, it should last a bit.

Great! I've looked at the Monkeyboxx and I'd have one if I could afford it. Going by reviews, you'll be well pleased with it.

The one I have is from totally wicked and has a battery in the battery box along the cord. It is a 10440 320 mAh. I hooked it up to my computer and never have had a problem. Had it maybe three weeks, but it was used when I got it. So far, so good.

Anyway, keep talking so I can learn. I'm not talented enuff to make one....oh, how I envy those people...AttyPops ....

They have replacement batteries on their site. There are many vendor that sell 10440 batteries too.

FanWriter is correct about the FIVE VOLT PTs (no inline battery) being ... let's say... not a good idea.... plugged into a computer USB port. Just to rephrase FanWriter, the battery driven 3.x volt PTs are just trickle charging and should be fine on a computer USB port (not counting shorts, fried circuits or other such that can happen on any USB device). The battery PTs only draw 400 ma (.4 amps) or so. The 5 volt PTs, OTOH, need TWO amps.... so use the wall wart.

As far as "what you did"... I don't see anything wrong with it. Batteries do die... eventually.
