The vape you get is a combination and balance of coil type, ohms of the coil, placement of the coil and amount of air flow. As you lower the ohms of the coil you can increase the airflow to keep a nice hit instead of a getting a lung burner.

If your ohms are too high a larger hole will probably make the vape seem weak. I now drill all of my RBA to a minimum of 1/16. I typically vape .8 to 1.2 ohms.

Thanks man. Does it have any impact on flavor?

When you get to your sweet spot of ohms to air flow for warmth, amount of vapor and throat hit, coil placement in relation to the air hole has a much bigger impact on flavor.

Then you play with different coils styles and placement. I can make sweetness standout or build it different and have earthy flavor shine more with the same juice.

Can I be your padawan coil building apprentice?

If it was only that easy everybody's sweet spot is different. After you make a few variations you'll start to see the patterns. Also post pics of coil builds and tell us how it vapes and how you want it to vape. Then we can give you clues.

Like; I want it warmer with less throat hit. Based on the coil, the answer could be, less wraps and move it lower.

I think I made 40 coils the first week I had my RM2 just playing with different things.

The stock airhole is 3/64" and it strangles things a bit. 1/16" is a good starting place and if you go for very low-ohm coils, then you may need to drill it out more.

I have 2 that are drilled to bigger than that. Bear in mind too - that a RM2 has a brass cap, so it's easy to drill and easy to drill larger than you intended ;) Start small!

I will also add when making changes, only change 1 variable at a time so you can see how it effects the vape.

IOW don't drill out the air hole and try it with a new and different coil, try it out with an existing coil. If you try a new gauge of wire, wrap it on a mandrel that you usually use.

This is so you know what is effecting what, if that makes any sense.

Idk if i made 40 the first week but I've been trying to build atleast 1 new coil everyday. I've kind of been fiddling with random set ups. I think limiting the variables in my build will help me hone everything in, now that I can build a good coil 99 percent of the time. I'm not home currently but I'm gonna put some pics up with what I've been working with so far.

This is what I've been workin with for the most part. 30 g around 1/16 bit 6-9 wraps and getting 1.1 to 1.5 ohms.

+1 on a great looking coil! Here's what I see: 6 or 7 wraps with 30 gauge can get a little hot and might start to burn the wick with long drags, try 8/9 wraps with 28g. Your low coil positioning looks great for increased flavor/low TH. If push comes to shove you do still have room to move the coil toward the cap.

If your draw seems a little bit tight (personally the stock hole is a tad restricting) try taking a pocket knife and spinning it around in the air hole. This will slowly shave the hole and allow you to gradually make it bigger. Since the RM2 cap is brass the knife works, this does not work on SS. I'm a big proponent of starting small and working your way up. You can always make it bigger but you cant make it smaller. Another method that works great is to use a 1/32 drill bit and make 1 or 2 tiny holes in line with the stock air hole. This helps to prevent juice leaking out of a huge single hole but provide 3 'jets' of air over the coil.

Disclaimer: My views are based off of my personal experiences and preferences (im a mouth-to-lung kinda guy). The best way to find your sweet spot is to just experiment experiment experiment

Edit: Does anyone have that rm2 coil positioning diagram that SuperX made? I can't seem to find it

Send a Pm to Rob and he can hook you up.

Correct. Either PM him here or send him an email, and he will send you an invoice for your purchase. It's no secret; Rob sells lots of spare parts. I've bought everything from RM2 caps to springs to firing pins to custom buttons (before heat resistant buttons were standard).

If there's one thing Reo does better than anyone else, it's customer support. Never hesitate to PM Rob if you need something specific.

Just don't try asking for a 100% brass Reo Grand. That won't fly.
